Spanning two days, the conference will include plenary sessions, concurrent workshops, and a reception and dinner with a keynote address by Sharon Simone, whose story of childhood sexual abuse has been shared the world over through the television movie, Ultimate Betrayal. Hers was one of the first of a tidal wave of cases to be heard, won and reported in the national media. Sharon's life story was portrayed by Marlo Thomas in a CBS television movie, Ultimate Betrayal, which is still being shown around the world. With former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder, she is responsible for getting The Child Abuse Accountability Act passed in Washington, DC. Now federal pensions can be garnished for child abuse judgments. Sharon earned her Master of Education degree from Harvard University. She speaks with a wide variety of audiences about power, using her personal journey and professional background to educate about preventing abuses of power and interrupting cycles of violence.

3 CONFERENCE PRESENTERS BENJAMIN E. SAUNDERS, Ph. D. is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. There he serves as Director of the Family and Child Program of the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center, and is on the faculty of the National Violence Against Women Prevention Research Center. Dr. Saunders r e s e a r c h and training activities focus on child victims of violence, trauma and abuse, family violence, sexual offenders and incest families. Dr. Saunders maintains a clinical and consulting p ractice, and often is called as an expert witness. SUZANNA TIAPULA is a Senior Attorney in the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse unit of the American Prosecutors Research Institute. Ms. Tiapula began her legal career as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Honolulu, specializing in domestic violence and child abuse cases. In 1998 she was recognized among 110 criminal attorneys as the Honolulu prosecutor who had successfully prosecuted the most c o nvictions as charged at jury trial. As an Assistant Attorney General in American Samoa in , Ms. Tiapula was responsible for all family violence, sexual assaults and institutional violence cases prosecuted in the Territory, as well as regional training. As a Senior Attorney with APRI, Ms. Tiapula is currently developing two advanced trial advocacy courses for the Prosecution of Online Crimes Against Children. CHARLES WILSON, MSSW is the Executive Director of the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Children s Hospital in San Diego. He served as the Executive Director of the National Children s Advocacy Center in Huntsville, Alabama from 1995 to 2000 which provides support services to new children s advocacy centers throughout the southern U.S. He has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives and has devoted 30 years to the field of child abuse.
