The event is well-attended by law enforcement, older volunteers, aging network professionals, and community members. The ABC s of Staying Safe on the Road Chuck Miles, District Coordinator, Marketing Specialist, Instructor, AARP, Racine Triad This workshop will build on our current driving skills and explore ways we can adapt to and compensate for today s challenges so we can maintain our mobility while staying safe on the road. B. Community Paramedicine Program Che Stedman, Division Chief, Medical Affairs, Madison Fire Department The workshop will cover the new program involving paramedics visiting persons recently released from the hospital or identified as at risk, to provide education and resources. C. Hoarding Disorder To be determined The following will be discussed in this workshop: What it is, levels of severity, causes, why it persists, what does psychiatric treatment for hoarding look like, and behavioral strategies. D. Heroin Use Affecting Seniors and Families Officer Jason Weber, Community Liaison Officer, Town of Menasha Police Dept. Heroin is a drug that has been plaguing communities across Wisconsin and the United States. This presentation will focus on the concerns with heroin abuse as well as looking where and how we got to this epidemic. 11:15-12:15PM Lunch, Exhibits, Door Prizes 12:15-1:15PM Plenary Session Addressing bias and practicing inclusion in our changing communities Sridevi Mohan, MPH, MA, Public Health Epidemiologist, Public Health Department, Madison-Dane County Alia Stevenson, Health Equity Coordinator, Public Health Department, Madison-Dane County Learn about the changing demographics of our communities and the impact of implicit bias on our thought process, decisions, and actions as well as practical solutions to mitigate it.

Learn to Spot and Avoid Frauds: Don t Let Cons Outsmart You - Learn their Tricks Laura Mael, SW Regional Director, Better Business Bureau Serving Wisconsin Learn more about the psychology of persuasion tactics used by scammers, why they work, and how to avoid them. Seniors are a favorite target of scammers understand why and arm yourself with the tools to reduce the threat of becoming a victim. B. Preparedness for Active Shooter within the Workplace and Community Josalyn Longley, Dane County Community Deputy, West District The presentation will provide training as well as education regarding active shooter and workplace violence. Topics covered will include: Response Plans to Active Shooter and Options for Survival, Render Aid, Warning Signs, Resources and How to Talk to your Kids. Through this initiative, we feel citizens will be empowered to take action and have the tools and action plans to survive. C. Identity Theft John Hendrick, Financial Empowerment Director, Chief Legal Counsel, Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups The workshop will focus on: who commits identity theft, how you can detect and report it, it may not be what you think, and the 31 reason to report identity theft to the police. If you know about financial identity theft, do you know four other kinds of identity theft? D. Gangs Madison Police Dept. Gang Unit: Officer Jodi Nelson, Officer Corey Smith Participants will receive an overview of street gangs. Attendees will be presented examples of the many signs and symbols associated with most street gangs. There will also be a discussion on why children join gangs and what we all can do to address gang violence in our communities. 2:30-2:45PM Break 2:45-3:45PM Workshops A. Scams and Frauds/Call For Action Adam Schrager, Investigative Reporter, Co-Anchor of News 3 This Morning - WISC TV According to the FBI, more than half of all fraud victims are senior citizens. Learn more about the multitude of ways seniors are targeted. Fraud in health care, computer support, home repair, charity, online and funeral/cemetery purchases are only a few of the ways seniors are cheated every year. Adam will talk about how these and other scams are perpetrated and he will describe what individuals should do to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of consumer fraud. D. Stories from the Front: A Panel of Men Reflect on Their Domestic Violence Treatment Darald Hanusa, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer & Preceptor, School of Social Work, University of Wisconsin, Madison Presently the media is fraught with stories about domestic violence situations. Seldom do we hear about the experiences of those who perpetrate the abuse. A panel of men who have successfully completed abuser treatment will share their stories, insights, and experiences-from the point of arrest through the course of specialized domestic violence treatment-the ATAM Program-to the post-treatment experiences that follow. The ATAM Program (Alternatives and Treatment for Abusive Men) is a 44 session State Certified domestic violence treatment program for men who batter, developed and directed by Darald Hanusa.
