1 Community Partner All About the Kids Learning American Red Cross Beach House Shelter Black Swamp Conservancy Brookdale Green Children's Resource Food Recovery Network at BGSU (Cherry St. Mission) Heartbeat of Toledo Challenge Project Impact Location Volunteers will help with general cleaning and organizing while the kids are down for a nap. They will also help with food prep and then work with the kids when they wake up from their naps (playing, reading, etc.). Door to door canvassing in coordination with the local fire department and local village officials educating area residents the importance of fire safety and the importance of having working smoke alarms in their homes. The project will consist of assistance organizing our food pantry in the shelter. Processing our invitation postcards for our fundraising event. Without the many, many supporters who attend our event, it would not be the successful fundraiser that it has become over the years. CMA students will perform concerts for the residents during lunch time. Volunteers will wipe down walls, cubicles, and offer a good scrub to other areas in the building. Volunteering at the Cherry St. Mission soup Kitchen. Volunteers will work in the kitchen at Cherry St. Mission and help provide meals for those in need. Reworking our baby boutique to a more efficient layout that we will design. Cleaning of areas that need extra help, possibly repaint some table tops The kids love seeing BGSU students and it engages the kids more when they have 'big kids' to work with. Local residents will have be informed about preventing home fires and what they can do if one occurs The completion of the project will help ensure our shelter is able to continue to provide food and other resources to our residents. This will help us ensure attendance at our event, which in turn, raises money that goes directly towards our mission of forever preserving and protecting natural areas and farmland in northwest Ohio. Performances from students will enliven the residents and create a more welcoming environment for all. CRC strives to provide a safe environment for our staff and clients. Assisting us in cleaning the agency helps to promote that safe and clean environment. Food Recovery Network at BGSU focuses on fighting water and feeding people. Volunteering at the Cherry St. Mission will help us achieve our mission of fighting waste and feeding people. Paint the truck bay of the Old Fire Station in Grand Rapids Ohio. Volunteers will be utilized in our pet food bank to distribute pet food to our clients, sort pet food donations, count, and organize inventory, and general cleaning in the pet food bank area. We would like the students to use artwork that our students have completed to iron on to fabric and make a display for our hallway. Paint personalized bookcases for Latino/a children and families in Wood County. The goal is to create a space in the home that children identify with that is positively associated with reading. In order to increase socialization among the tenants, we would like student volunteers to set up in the 3 community rooms and offer finger nail painting as a "spa" like treat for the residents, to fight the winter blues. We will utilize volunteers to help make Wizard of Oz themed decorations for this event. Specific project will take place at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Challenge Projects allow us to complete large improvement projects at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore that we aren't otherwise able to complete. Activities at the Heritage Corner are intended to enhance the quality of life for clients and families. This concert will help us to do so. The Old Fire Station is used by various community organizations and individuals to hold classes and meetings, conduct fundraisers, etc. Painting is needed for routine maintenance as well as to make the facility more attractive to use. This Challenge Project will help keep our pet food bank clean and organized and also allow our pet food bank clients the opportunity to see that the community, including college students, cares about their needs. It will provide positive parent involvement. The parents have helped the students complete the artwork. It will give the parents and students ownership in the building. The Challenge Project will increase family literacy activities and increase Latino/a children's love of reading which will in turn contribute to higher levels of educational attainment. It will increase joy among the tenants that participate. We have done this project in past years & the tenants look forward to it every year. The completion of this challenge project will help our agency to put on an event that will help adults with developmental disabilities to feel special and cared for. It allows us to complete a large-scale project that can help us build and repair homes for more families in the community. Package food in an assembly line to create nutritious meals to donate to local food pantries Call Toledo Public School parents to register them for our upcoming events, call community members and funders to seek donations for our annual fundraiser, and clean/organize the Partners In office. Hold a phone bank to thank our donors. We would have a script and students would be working right next to other volunteers making calls. Organize items from the organization s move, along with cleaning the common areas of the new House, which is a much larger area than we have typically had. The group will be preparing dinner for the House for that evening's meal. The mailing out of our first annual campaign will provide money to continue the mission of providing healthy nutrition, proteins, toiletries, hygiene, and cleaning products for a complete service of health and wellness for all cancers, all ages in the NW Ohio & SE Michigan area. We rely heavily upon volunteers to assist in the day-to-day business and during our special events. Volunteers from BGSU will help alleviate the burden on our normal volunteers. This will increase the amount of health meals available to local residents who are food insecure It will help our agency have a bigger impact in the lives of our families by connecting with them on a personal level that is unattainable with such a small staff. These personal connections will enhance our mission of supporting student success through community engagement. Thanking your donors and volunteers is vital to our continued success. However, since Planned Pethood is run by all volunteers with the exception of one part time employee; completing a task such as this is nearly impossible given our contact list. The Day Programing Building is where our individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities receive employment training or participate in enrichment programs. Rearranging and cataloging the contents of our food pantry, so we can better track donations and disbursements Prepping of 2 "paint-by-number" murals on large panels that will be completed by residents during a community celebration; painting or beautifying of education spaces and reading areas; cleaning and organizing the building to optimize usage of space by the community. Organizing, sorting, and creating functional space in our new building. Sorting and organizing new donations, cleaning areas of the building and cleaning out closets and reorganizing the space to create better use and function. Get us organized for our monthly shopping for our food pantry. We serve over 130 families every 3rd weekend of each month and with that comes a lot of reorganization with the help of volunteers. Our Sunday school and other rooms are in dire need of cleaning to brighten the rooms to make it a friendlier learning environment for the kids and others that used the spaces. Having these rooms painted will give the individuals who spend their days in these rooms a clean fresh environment. It will also help take the burden off our maintenance staff who regularly have more projects than they have time to complete. This is a large-scale job that our small staff cannot handle in a short period of time. With the new year approaching, it will be important to accomplish this task as close to the beginning of the year as possible. Residents are using art to reduce blight, improve community safety, and increase opportunities for artist residents in neighborhoods. We value the involvement of artists in community planning to reactivate spaces with participation open to Toledo area students and other community partners. It will greatly increase our ability to serve domestic violence survivors and increase our ability to use our new space as effectively as possible. If we find that we have extra time, there may be a few things around our space that could use a little handy work as well. The volunteers will perform light cleaning of The Giving Store, will hang donations, and will stock the store with merchandise. The students will be involved in general painting and cleaning We need help deep cleaning our shelter. This includes dog kennels, puppy room, cat rooms, kitten nursery, and pocket pets. Scan documents from our archives and identify them in our database. Assist in organizing the boathouse by moving equipment around. If the boathouse is inaccessible at that time due to ice, we will create (print, staple, generally prepare) marketing materials. Major cleanup of our pet supply area. We have 6000 sq. ft. in our building and we would like to do a thorough cleaning. Cost of Poverty Experience (C.O.P.E.) is a hands-on poverty simulation that allows participants to role-play through various scenarios based on real-life examples. Volunteers will be facilitating this experience. These items will be used as promotional material that can be sold to benefit the organization. We are currently low staffed and assistance in this creative effort would be very helpful. The assistance of your volunteers will help provide a well-stocked, clean, and orderly environment in which shoppers can receive clothing and household items without charge. Painting some of the rooms that need to be 'spruced' up will greatly add to the atmosphere of the classrooms and hallways. Deep cleaning the shelter is very important to cut down on the spread of contagious illnesses and diseases. It will improve the quality of care while the animals are with us. We are creating a historical archive of all of our Fair Housing Civil cases from the past 40 years. Having students who can help move things around and organize some of the equipment will allow me to get the boathouse prepared for the start of the season in March. This will help our organization be more organized to help more youth and save more dogs. The completion of this Challenge Project will impact our agency's work through helping those going through the simulation grasp a better understanding of what it is really like to live in poverty, and the realities of how hard it is to get out. 6 Wood County Committee on Aging Wood County Park District Wood Haven Health Care Volunteers will decorate bags for holidays that are used to deliver meals to individuals who are not capable of leaving their residences Building boardwalk sections and cleaning native seed. Hosting CMA students to perform a concert to benefit residents. The decorated bags greatly increase the mood of individuals who receive meals and they appreciate that others have taken the time to make their meals more enjoyable. The project will allow for a small department to complete tasks that would take them a month to complete. In addition, it will help the parks provide a lifted path for visitors to enjoy the park without getting their feet wet.
