Our annual free day-long conference for volunteers and community leaders will be held on Saturday, June 6th from 9:00 am till 2:15 pm at Niagara University. Detailed information is available at the BCS website: Our keynote address will be presented by The Joint Terrorism Task Force, specialists working together to pool talents, skills and knowledge to protect communities from terrorist attack. The presentation will begin promptly at 9:15 am in St. Vincent s Hall, 4th floor, room 407. PLEASE NOTE: This location is a change from previous years conferences. A continental breakfast will be available for all. The conference will also include the following presentations: Morning Session (choice of one) Fire and Life Safety Workshop Epidemiology Afternoon Session (choice of one) Lessons from Cuba: Preparing Citizens and Protecting Communities Response & Recovery - An Insurance Perspective A complimentary lunch will be provided by BCS. 2 Border Community SERVICE City of Buffalo Dana Estrada If you ve come to our conference or a presentation in the City of Buffalo, you ve heard me talk about our UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) area partners. But did you know that the UASI partners continue to meet despite our region not receiving UASI funds any longer? It may seem odd but our ongoing partnerships created and fostered through UASI are still just as important even though our deactivation by DHS as a UASI region happened in It helps make emergency preparedness and response much smoother if you know the players prior to any emergency. And even odder still is that Buffalo will host the National UASI conference in 2016? That s a testament to the ongoing regional UASI partnerships created so long ago. BCS has been busy with Clean Sweeps throughout May. We have reached out to over 150 households with approximately a quarter of those households receiving incentive gifts along with a short presentation at their own door. This month we visited households on Rounds & Lisbon, Garner & Bird, Theodore & Zelmer, and Pershing, Timon, & Roehrer. It s also incredible to be working along side City of Buffalo employees that have taken the CERT training from us one as early as 2007 and the other a couple of years ago. It s nice to see familiar faces! We ve also had the opportunity to give presentations at the Buffalo Urban League s after school program as well as supported the City of Buffalo Police Department s Junior Police Academy with information and Grab & Go Safety kits, among other things this month. As always, if you have a group of individuals interested in a presentation in the City of Buffalo, please call me at We ll also be up and running again in Niagara County soon, so if you are interested in a presentation there, please feel free to call me as well. The Ride For Roswell counts on over 2,000 dedicated volunteers support 8,000 cyclists to ensure a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all. Their passion and commitment are what makes Ride Weekend a success! 2015 marks the 20 th anniversary of The Ride For Roswell, presented by West Herr Automotive Group! 4 Two Air Show Volunteer Opportunities: Opportunity One: Opportunity Two: CONTACT HOWARD at - RSVP by June 5th - to volunteer for the following: Airbase drill in preparation for the July 18th air show. We need approximately 20 Adult and Youth volunteers at the Niagara Falls Air Base on Saturday, June 27th. You would arrive at the base around 7:45am and be done with the drill by 1pm. Adults and Youths are invited. This drill will simulate a C-130 crash during an airshow where spectator will be injured. You will be the victims! More details will follow. If you are interested or wish to make a commitment to volunteer please contact Howard Morgan.
