Lunch will be $15. To be eligible for the free lunch drawing, you must RSVP no later than 4pm on August 12th to The Delta Chamber of Commerce office Our guest speaker will be Lorna Shaw from Lorna Shaw with Pogo Mine. Lorna Shaw serves as the External Affairs Manager for Sumitomo Metal Mining Pogo LLC where she oversees community, public and government affairs for Pogo Mine. A fourth generation Alaskan, Shaw has more than 12 years of Alaska-based mining industry experience. Prior to joining Sumitomo Pogo, she led community and government relations for Kinross at its Fort Knox Mine and other North American operations. Shaw previously worked as the Executive Director of the Council of Alaska Producers, a trade association that represents large-scale hard rock mines and projects in Alaska. Recently serving as the Chairwoman of the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, Shaw also serves on the boards of directors for several other industry and business organizations, including Alaska Miners Association, Resource Development Council, and the Alaska Center for Economic Education. Shaw holds graduate and undergraduate business degrees from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Prior to joining the mining industry, Shaw served for a number of years as a legislative aide to members of the Alaska State Legislature and as staff for US Senator Frank Murkowski. Shaw graduated from UAF 1996 with her BBA and again in 2005 with her MBA. She lives in Fairbanks with her husband, Kelly, and seven-year-old daughter, Rachel.

3 Jeanie & Jackie As most of you know our friend Jeanie Gallagher is making the big move from Delta. Though Jeanie has only been with us since March, her and her family have been in the Delta community for 10 years. They are ready to adventure out to their next duty station. Currently Jeanie is training the newest addition to the Management team, Jackie Carpenter. Jackie is still relatively new to our community having only arrived a year ago. She comes to us from Washington State. She is thrilled to be a part of the Chamber and ready for all the excitement it will bring. Just a reminder Chamber Board Meeting are the second Tuesday of the month, location changes monthly look for your for location. 5 August 1, 2013 Page 5 Chamber News The Delta Junction Community Health Fair will be held at the Community Center (2287 Deborah Street) on Saturday, September 21, 2013, 8:00am to noon. Roy & Janell Gilbertson (Delta Building Supply), Doug & Jackie Fett (Interior Building Supply), Ed & Gayle Larson (IGA Food Cache), Jon & Carol Dufendach (Campwater Industries), and the Delta Lions will sponsor this year s event. DBS and IBS paid the $500 Alaska Health Fair (AHF) program fee, IGA will provide bottled water, juices, and healthy snacks, Campwater Industries paid the $150 fee to rent the Community Center plus the $100 deposit for AHF to reserve September 21 (for the Delta Health Fair), and the Delta Lions will serve drinks and snacks to patrons who have their blood drawn. Toni Lee is the Lab Supervisor and she is guiding me through the process of running the health fair, sharing her knowledge and experience from many years of volunteering in previous events. We are in need of exhibitors who offer educational information that promote health and safety. If you can provide anything that contributes to the success of the Delta Health Fair, please reserve space as soon as possible. Please note that exhibitors are not permitted to sell or take participant names or numbers unless it is for a free giveaway prize and personal information is not retained. Can you share information about any of the following or something that is not mentioned? Organic foods that can be grown in Delta Self-defense techniques Childcare tips for new parents or teenage babysitters Gun safety Fire safety Dealing with stress Dealing with death The importance of proper posture and back alignment Massage therapy Weight control Making yogurt How to protect probiotics Bicycle safety Off-road vehicle safety and helmet laws Seat belt requirements Healthy pet practices (shots, spaying/neutering, how to dispose of a dead pet) Vitamin D deficiencies in Alaskans Weight training and the importance of exercise Volunteers, phlebotomists, specialized screeners, and exhibitors are needed. Please contact me or Toni ( ) and also share this with others who would like to participate. Each volunteer is required to submit an application form (attached and also available at City Hall). Please deliver your application to City Hall as I am responsible to scan and send them to the head office in Fairbanks. Volunteers and exhibitors are encouraged to get their blood drawn early (7:00 to 8:00) before greeting the public. Here s to a successful turnout! You don t have to be a expert on the Sullivan Roadhouse or even a long time resident of Delta Junction, most Visitors love to see a friendly face who is willing to chat for awhile! 7 Delta Moose Lodge 911 is Hosting the Fall Moose Conference September They are looking for Donations for hand out bags for attendees; This is a great opportunity for advertisement of your business. Delta Junction Community Health Fair, at the Community Center (2287 Deborah St.) Saturday September 21, :00am-12:00pm We are looking for Volunteers to become members of our newly formed committees. We would like to have 3-5 members per committee. This is a great way to get involved with the Chamber and get your ideas heard. The committees available are listed below.
