4 O th ur Fund Raising event on the 30 September was successful and we managed to hit the targeted amount. In addition we hosted 57 under privileged orphans from three homes and it was a pleasure to see so many smiles! Once again thanks to Organizing Chairman VP Patrick Lee who, together with his committee worked very hard. Now is the time to collect money from those who are yet to honour their pledges. Members please make it easier for VP Patrick Lee in this respect. PRESIDENT S MESSAGE They are planning a big bash as we have had for our own 50 th Anniversary last year. Best Wishes to them!!! Finally, to our Hindu members a Happy Deepavali on the Wed 18 th Oct Also we bid a warm welcome to Rtn Jitco Chin and Rtn Albert Chia who were inducted at our Vocational Service Membership Night. At their induction they made a new Rotary Pledge. Welcome again Rtn Jitco and Rtn Albert Chia. We hope you all will be active as more hands make the work load lighter. However, on a sad note, I wish to extend on behalf of the Club, our deepest condolences to Rtn Albert for the passing away of his beloved father on Regarding dues, I had highlighted on Whatsapp that a number of cheques we received from unknown persons. Please refer to this Whatsapp and check whether they were from you. The cheque numbers and amount were indicated. Most likely they were for payment of dues. The Club under Vocational Service hopes to participate in the District Vocational KTMB project whereby we will be allowed to put up 4-way test signage at certain designated spot at KTMB train stations. We have been allocated the Kepong Station. Rtn Sannice has indicated she could help as she is in the signage business. So, Voc Director please liaise with her. The Club also attended a Rotary-Rotaract Dialogue at Ipoh on 1 st October and it was a very meaningful event. Besides some Rotaractors from Pudu, PP Gary Lim, Rtn Kenneth Goh, VP Patrick Lee and myself, attended. Some of us are busy planning for the visit to the 60 th Anniversary of our sister Club, the Rotary Club of Dhonburi in early November. Jeffrey Yap President RY Dato Muslim Ayob Past President Editor EDITORIAL L ooks like we are going to have yet another ad hoc committee. This time it s called 3 rd Meeting Activities Committee. Why 3 rd Meeting? Presumably, after going for just two meetings per month as allowed by the new RI COL we were to also have an activities meeting to keep the Club members bonded by some fellowship. At page 12, you ll see this new committee and it s members listed. Pardon me, but a question has flashed in my mind as to why we had to form yet another committee? If you look up the Club Handbook 2007 and turn to pages you ll see that our Club already have at least one committee that can handle the said new tasks. The Fellowship Committee, to my mind, should take this on with suitable revised terms of reference, increased number of committee members (instead of being a no-man committee) and do all that needs to be done. Don t you think so? Rotary Club of Pudu Page 4

12 ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE We have formed a committee to plan and organize special projects/activities for the 3rd meeting of each month. The committee comprise of the following members: 1. Chairman - Mohan Raj 2. Vice-Chairman - VP Patrick Lee 3. PE CT Heng 4. PAG Gary Lim 5. Rtn Chee TK 6. Rtn Kenneth Goh The committee had their 1 st meeting on 11 th October and discussed mainly on using this meeting to bring our members and their spouses, Rotaractors and guests (including potentials,) children etc closer together. Big benefits for us by having it; and among others, the purpose would be also as follows: 1. Those unable to attend regular meetings due to work but can attend/show up/participate on this day 2. Spouses can come together and join in 3. Foster goodwill 4. Share ideas 5. Advertise our club 6. Senior members to get to know the newer Rotarians; and vice versa 7. Leading a healthy life 8. Share Rotary 9. and more... An OC will be appointed to organize it each month and for this 1 st activity in October, our PE CT Heng has offered to take the lead. Details: 1. Activity : Climbing/walking at Bkt Taman Tun Dr Ismail (Exact location will be advised by OC) 2. Date: 29 th October 3. Day: Sunday 4. Time: 7.00am 5. This will be followed by breakfast 6. Attire: Rotary T-shirt Costs: The RM from your dues will cover the costs for breakfast for you, your spouse and Rotaractors only. Invited guests, children and others will be charged RM20.00 *** (*** This was argued but it was made clear that this is our 3rd meeting and as all regular meetings, guests and children will be charged - thus the decision.) Note: 1. This is only a start and along the way, we can improve with feedback from all. 2. If there is a project, we can incorporate this together as the 3rd meeting. 3. We improvise along the way... There ll be more postings on this on whatsapp; and all you need to do is put in your name together with your spouse and/or any guests. Rotary Club of Pudu Page 12
