5 ZaCSA Committee News Updates and volunteer request from the ZaCSA standing and auxiliary committees Membership People to People ZaCSA Membership provides opportunities for social, cultural, and creative pursuits. ZaCSA member events include luncheons, evening events, small interest group support, and a variety of other activities hosted by our Japanese Friendship Groups. Making friends and sharing experiences is one of the highlights of being a ZaCSA member. ZaCSA volunteer contributions create community grant funds and provide service to the Camp Zama Community. Membership Fees are $25 or free membership for spouses of deployed Camp Zama Personnel. Membership Forms can be found at the East Meets West Gift Shop and online at: Membership Chair, Diana Reamer, can be contacted at membership.zacsa@gmail.com. Scholarships ZaCSA Scholarship Chair, Rachel Jennings, will have scholarship applications for non-traditional students and the Zama American High School Class of 2014, in early spring. The Scholarship committee assists in judging applicants and awarding ZaCSA funds to those who meet the criteria for a ZaCSA Scholarship. Interested in being a part of this committee? You can contact Rachel at zacsa.scholarships@gmail.com. The ZaCSA Wind Chimes Newsletter is the spot for all of your People to People news. In the future, the month's events will be listed in this space, along with all of the names of the people attending each of the events. You will not receive a reminder about the events for which you have signed up; the list of names in the newsletter will serve as your reminder. Please contact Becky Cook, People to People Chair, before the day of the event, if you are unable to attend your event. We want to allow as many ZaCSA Members as possible to participate. If you would like to volunteer to help escort our Friendship Groups, liaison with one or more of the groups, and more, please contact the People to People Chair Becky Cook, at: zacsa.peopletopeople@gmail.com. Media and Publicity If you are a ZaCSA Group Leader or Committee Chair and want to advertise your ZaCSA event, a request for members or volunteers, or a similar need, please contact the ZaCSA Media and Publicity Chair, Jeanette Ver Haar. Jeanette can be reached at zacsa.media@gmail.com. 5

6 Committee News Continued... Hospitality Greetings and welcome to all ZaCSA Members! The Hospitality Committee has a very special monthly need for volunteers. Each month, the Camp Zama Newcomers Welcome program enables us to set-up a table during the "Taste of Japan Lunch". ZaCSA volunteers are needed to staff this table and provide Newcomers with information about ZaCSA. If you are interested, contact Hospitality Chair, Tracy Pennington, at: hospitality.zacsa@yahoo.com. Community Grants Previously known as the Welfare Committee, the Community Grant Committee reviews and researches requests for funds applications and makes recommendations to the ZaCSA Executive Board. Community members are encouraged to take advantage of the fundraising ZaCSA does specifically to support our community in this way. For more information, contact the Community Grants Chair, Mary Manglapus, at: grants.zacsa@gmail.com Historian ZaCSA Historian Sachiko Thompson will be kept very busy photographing ZaCSA events and activities throughout the year. The demand of attending every event, including Friendship events, is a huge time commitment. If you also like to take photographs at events, please contact Sachiko and offer to be part of a team that digitally records the history of ZaCSA in action! Contact Sachiko at: zacsa.historian@gmail.com 8 th Annual ZaCSA Scholarship Basket Auction The annual Basket Auction raises Scholarship funds for Camp Zama Community Adults and High School Seniors. 8 THE the Wind LOREM Chimes IPSUMS September FALL New Member Dinner ZaCSA members who are joining for the first time this year are invited to a "Welcome Dinner" hosted by the ZaCSA Executive Board. The dinner is a casual potluck style dinner, with the ZaCSA Board members providing the dishes. All new members are welcome and encouraged to attend and get to know a little more about Thursday, September 12 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Quarters 1006, Eagle's Nest RSVP by September 9 membership.zacsa@gmail.com Notes from the President... I don't like many pictures of myself but I have to admit I love the one just above this note. It is from one of the many events that I have attended with the ZaCSA Japanese Friendship Groups: a day spent at the Silk Museum in Yokohama and then on to the Sankei-en Gardens to visit historical buildings relocated to the area from around Japan. This memory is just one of the many that make time in Japan and with the ZaCSA community special. New members and old are in store for another fabulous year. The ZaCSA monthly events now have varied times in order to make it convenient for all ZaCSA members to attend at least one event during the year. The topics of our monthly events are meant to be informative and educational featuring topics on Japan and Camp Zama. We can will learn and grow together. In early June, we met with our Japanese Friendship groups and they have a year of fun and interesting activities for us to share with them as well. You will hear me say it frequently when speaking of these wonderful groups: they afford us the opportunity to get to know this community far from home better than any other in which I have lived. Open yourself to their events, customs, and traditions and you are in for a very special time in Japan. And don't forget the ZaCSA Special Interest Groups! Knitting is back with the delightful Carol Guilliams willing to host and teach the group. Other special interest groups are in the making: Gourmet Lunch Bunch anyone? ZaCSA offers the opportunity for you to reach out other ZaCSA members and share or develop your special interest. Contact me and we will make it happen! Here's to another great year!
