1 St Ursula s Weekly Issue 171 Friday 5th June 2015 Message from the Head Teacher I was delighted to receive the following letter last week. Dear Mrs Warnock Letter from Ofsted Outstanding providers One of my most enjoyable duties as Her Majesty s Chief Inspector is to celebrate the success of those judged to be outstanding when they were inspected. Please accept my warmest congratulations on achieving this very high standard of practice. The judgement of outstanding means that you are exceptional and significant elements of your work are exemplary. I do not underestimate the considerable hard work, expertise and commitment it takes to achieve outstanding provider status. The full list of outstanding providers will be published on Ofsted s website in November 2015 to coincide with the launch of my Annual Report. To help you share and promote your success, I enclose a certificate of recognition of your outstanding achievement, as well as a CD ROM with the official Ofsted outstanding logo for use on your stationary and other publicity materials. Finally, in addition to my congratulations, my thanks for all you are doing to raise standards and improve lives. Thank you so much for your kind gift of 7, in support of the work of refuge. It s an absolutely fantastic amount to have raised, so please pass on our thanks to all who contributed at St Ursula s Convent School. Your gift will help us to provide vital services, including safe emergency accommodation, individual and group counselling and community based outreach services, which enable women and children who have experienced the horror of domestic violence to rebuild their lives. The scale of domestic violence in the UK is staggering: one woman in four will experience it at some point in her lifetime, and two women are killed by a current or former partner every week. Refuge saves lives, helping women and children every day to escape violence and build a safe and positive future and it is gifts such as yours which make this possible. Thank you once again for your investment in the future of refuge and your commitment to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated or ignored. 5 STUDENT NEWS Science Club News Thursday 5 th of June In science club today we made our own bath bombs! A bath bomb is really showing how acids and alkalis react when mixed together. In the experiment we carried out this week, the baking soda is the base and the citric acid is the acid. But the reaction of this acid-base combination can be controlled by the other ingredients in the bath bomb. Water is the catalyst for the reaction to occur because it dissolves the solids and allows the ions in the acid and the base to move and collide with each other, causing a chemical reaction to occur. A catalyst is something added to a chemical mixture that speeds up the chemical reaction time. This reaction forms carbon dioxide, a gas, which rises to the surface of the bathwater in the form of bubbles. The oils and the fragrances are useful as a liquid to help form the bath bombs as well as leave the skin smooth and scented.
