2 FROM THE DESK OF MRS. LA SALLE These things I warmly wish for you- Someone to love, some work to do. A bit of sun, a bit of cheer, and a guardian angel always near. March 4, 2014 Dear Parents: Welcome to March! Thankfully, we managed to dodge the storm yesterday and hopefully the snowy weather is behind us. The TerraNova testing begins next Monday, March 10 th. for students in grades 1-8. Please be sure your child is here on time. Testing will be done primarily in the morning and once classroom doors are closed, latecomers will not be permitted to enter. Children should get plenty of rest during the week and should have breakfast before coming to school. They should also come to school with 2 #2 pencils with erasers. The children will have all scheduled specials classes. Tomorrow begins our season of Lent. Ash Wednesday Liturgy will be at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. Ashes will be distributed at St. Mary s Church throughout the day. There is also a 12:00 p.m. Mass tomorrow. 5 St. Mary s Invites you to be a part of Cornerstone 2014 Men s Cornerstone Be Not Afraid March If you are a member of the parish or attend Mass here and have not already attended Cornerstone, or feel the need to experience Men s Cornerstone again: Please join us for a one-night, 26-hour opportunity to renew your faith, escape the daily grind, find some much needed quiet, reflective time and make new friends. Activities will begin on Friday at 7 p.m. and conclude on Saturday with a closing Mass at 7:00 p.m. Held right on the St. Mary s campus in the Carnevale Center, your Cornerstone experience will feature talks given by St. Mary s participants from last year s Cornerstone. These talks will be followed by small group discussion. There will be quiet time for reflection and spiritual growth. All meals will be provided and served by Cornerstone alumni. Cornerstone can fill up quickly, so early registration is strongly recommended. 7 What is Cornerstone? Cornerstone is an opportunity to renew your faith and grow in your experience of Christian Community. It is also a way to meet other people from St. Mary s in a warm, welcoming environment on both a personal and spiritual level. Who conducts Cornerstone? A core team of women who are Cornerstone Alumni from 2013 are your hosts and leaders for Women s Cornerstone Each team member will give of themselves in various ways. Some team members will give talks on selected themes or lead discussions, while others plan liturgy and music. Still others will plan your meals and accommodations. All team members are dedicated to ensuring an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality. What can I expect? Cornerstone activities will begin Friday evening at 7 pm and end Saturday evening after the Clos- ing Mass which starts at 7 pm (please invite your loved ones to celebrate with you at this mass!). Your 26-hour overnight stay will take place at the St. Mary s Carnevale Center, with great meals and plentiful snacks and refreshments throughout the retreat. Tell Me More... Consider Cornerstone to be a place to rest from the storm of everyday life. There will be talks, personal reflection, Reconciliation and Eucharist. In addition, you can connect with others who are looking to grow spiritually, as well as participate in a variety of activities to whet your appetite for faith. Since 1994, over 1000 men and women have participated in Cornerstone at S t. Mary s. Ask any Alumnus, and you will hear how each has grown spiritually and has deepened their sense of community within our Parish and beyond. What do I do now? The Cornerstone 2014 Team is busily preparing for your participation. All you have to do is register! Space is limited and spots fill up quickly, so don t delay. Feel free to call one of our Co-chairs to talk more about it. Activities This year Women s Cornerstone 2014 will be offering activities in two 45-minute sessions on Saturday morning. Participants will choose from six different activities, as listed below. Spiritual Meditation: Through guided imagery, this activity will enable you to calm your mind and engage your spirit. Meditation is a technique which is used for healing as well as personal development. Retreatants will be led through this activity by an experienced Cornerstone Alumnus No equipment is required. Learning and Praying the Rosary: This activity will also be led by our Cornerstone Alumni. Do not be intimidated by the Rosary, in fact anyone who knows six easy prayers can pray a Rosary. Bring your favorite Rosary beads and learn how to pray the rosary in a short time. Yoga: In this activity, participants will use simple yoga techniques to enhance their ability to relax and gain a spiritual connection to God. Yoga teaches us how to connect our mind, body and soul while using our own body strength to achieve an inner calm. Please bring your own yoga mat or towel. Spiritual Zumba: Take part in this exercise in disguise salsa like dance which incorporates fun movements and beautiful Christian music. You get to dance freely while exercising the mind and soul. No prior experience is needed. Reflective Writing: Let your creative juices flow in this writing activity with an amazing published writer as your guide. Writing can be freeing for everyone. No writing experience is required. Scrapbooking: Create a beautiful scrapbook page in this activity that represents an interest, a loved one or just mementos of your Cornerstone weekend. Participants please bring one to five pictures to use to create your scrapbook
