2 Page 2 PIMA COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Happy Post Fourth of July to all. For political people this is always a fun day of flag waving, parades, hot temperatures in our desert and fire on the mountain in the wake of a spectacular show. Lucky we live in Tucson. Cindy Coleman and I traveled to Nogales to participate in their parade with the Az GOP and the local candidates, including Shelley Kais and Chris Ackerley. We are always trying to make inroads to non-republican groups or at least we keep trying. With the last few weeks until the Early Ballots go out the campaigns are looking for volunteers to get the signs out on the streets and help with the upcoming GOTV efforts. Training sessions for the i360 Software at the Campaign School and at LD9 this last Saturday have been well attended. This shows a willingness to keep up with the changing landscape of political activism. We look forward to the National Convention later this month, hoping for no extreme incidents to derail the election. We round out the end of the month with our program of Senatorial Candidates speaking to us at lunch at La Paloma. Thank you Jodi Bain for allowing us to dovetail on your membership to get good rates there. Volunteer hour spreadsheet. We know that our women are out on the streets working for campaigns so I am going to re-emphasize that you MUST keep some sort of tabulation of your volunteer time. We have attached the Volunteer Sheet to this newsletter to help guide you in what we are actually tabulating. When you check in at our luncheons we will ask you to record your volunteer hours on a master spreadsheet that is sitting at the check-in table. Since this is a two year tabulation we want to make it easier on you. Just give your hours monthly and forget about them. Dinesh D Souza Event. The movie that was produced by Dinesh D Souza s production company, Hillary, The Movie, will be kicking off July 21 st in Tucson. There is a special showing by one political organization that has purchased the whole theater. That showing is at the Oro Valley Marketplace. A group of our club members is going to see the movie on Friday, July 22 nd at the El Con Theater for the 10:30am show. If you purchase your tickets at the Fandango website they are $6.25 plus whatever fee Fandango charges. We are not certain if this will be a sell-out showing so if you want to join us, please get your tickets early. We will meet in the lobby of the theater before the show. Please marypreble@msn.com if you will be attending. Campaign School. On Saturday, June 25 th, the Pima County Republican Party held a Campaign Workshop with 55 attendees. Many of our members attended, as well as presented training modules. This was an overly compressed program but for many it was the first time they had been exposed to this type of training. Our members participated in this fashion Dolores Johnston, Chair of the Event, Mary Preble, Curriculum coordination, Cindy Coleman, presenter. Thank you, again, for stepping up to train the next generation of political activists and refreshing some of us has-beens to the next wave of politics. Mary

15 LEGISLATIVE ACTION Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis H.R Introduced in House (06/04/2015) Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act of 2015 One of NFRW's legislative priorities is HR 2646, Representative Tim Murphy's Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act. The legislation has been ordered reported out of subcommittee and is awaiting full committee action. Our immediate goal is to have key members of the Energy and Commerce Committee cosponsor the bill. Sponsor: Rep. Murphy, Tim [R-PA-18] (Introduced 06/04/2015) Committees: House - Energy and Commerce; Ways and Means; Education and the Workforce Committee Reports: H. Rept Latest Action: Roll Call Votes: 07/07/2016 Received in the Senate. (All Actions) There has been 1 roll call vote This bill creates the position of Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders to take over the responsibilities of the Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Mental health programs are extended and training regarding mental health is expanded. SAMHSA must establish the National Mental Health Policy Laboratory and the Interagency Serious Mental Illness Coordinating Committee. This bill amends the Public Health Service Act to require the National Institute of Mental Health to translate evidencebased interventions and the best available science into systems of care. Certain mental health care professional volunteers are provided liability protection. Pediatric mental health subspecialists are eligible for National Health Service Corps programs. An underserved population of children or a site for training in child psychiatry can be designated as a health professional shortage area. The protected health information of an individual with a serious mental illness may be disclosed to a caregiver under certain conditions. This bill amends title XIX (Medicaid) of the Social Security Act (SSAct) to conditionally expand coverage of mental health services. Part D (Voluntary Prescription Drug Benefit Program) of title XVIII (Medicare) of the SSAct is amended to require coverage of antidepressants and antipsychotics. If it will not increase Medicare spending, Medicare's 190-day lifetime limit on inpatient psychiatric hospital services is eliminated. Health information technology activities and incentives are expanded to include certain mental health and substance abuse professionals and facilities. This bill restricts the lobbying and counseling activities of protection and advocacy systems for individuals with mental illness. These systems must focus on safeguarding the rights of individuals with mental illness to be free from abuse and neglect.
