2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE HAPPY NEW YEAR from your new President. We will make 2018 a great year. I am very pleased to serving in this capacity and know that we will work well together. We had our first board meeting and discussed many things that we want to do in this election year. We are excited to be able to help get Republicans elected to many offices which is sometimes an uphill battle. On December 2, we had a wonderful Silver Tea and had many membership renewals and some new members signed up. If you were not able to attend and did not get to renew your membership, we hope you will do that soon. The new board was installed by Dolores Johnston. Thank you, Dolores, for stepping in at the last moment. The AzFRW is holding the Winter Meeting in Tucson on February 9 & 10. I will not be able to attend. I would like for someone to step in as my proxy. If you are that person, please contact me soon. Our first general membership meeting of the new year will be a luncheon at Pima GOP headquarters. Ana Henderson, LD9 candidate for Arizona House, will be our speaker. Please see more details in the newsletter. Hope to see you soon at one of our events. Susan K Smith MEMBERSHIP MICHELLE LUDWIG, 1st VICE PRESIDENT On Page 4 is the membership roster of those who paid 2018 dues that were collected at our Silver Tea. Members, please check the roster for any needed corrections, and any updates. This information is vital to ensuring you receive our newsletter and the AzFRW and NFRW s. My contact information is: MichelleLudwig1@gmail.com (520) (cell) If you have any family or friends who would like to attend one of our meetings, or join...please contact me so that I can send them information. I look forward to seeing you at our first meeting at Pima GOP Headquarters on Thursday, January 25th!

3 ARRANGEMENTS LAUREN BLEVINS, 3rd VICE PRESIDENT Our January luncheon will be Jan. 25 at 11:30 at Pima County Headquarters, 1740 E Ft. Lowell Rd, Ste 140. It will be catered by Baggins and we have a choice of 3 different sandwiches: Turkey, Ham or Roast Beef. The cost will be $15. Reservations need to be called into me by Monday, Jan. 22. My phone # is You can call or text me your reservation. Our guest speaker will be Pima Co GOP 1st Vice Chair Ana Henderson. We look forward to seeing everyone at our luncheon. Sincerely, Lauren Blevins, 2nd VP Arrangements and Hospitality. ABOUT JANUARY S SPEAKER ANA HENDERSON, CANDIDATE FOR STATE REP As a Christian, and mother of a combat veteran, Ana has always placed importance on service for faith, family and country. During her candidacy for State Representative in District 9, she continues her service as our county party First Vice Chairman, as well as a State Committeeman. Ana maintains her membership in support of nearly all of our county Republican clubs, including her associate membership of PCRWC, in demonstration of her commitment to our community. PIMA COUNTY SHERIFF SHARES NEWS FROM HIS OFFICE AND THE PIMA COUNTY JAIL Sheriff Mark Napier spoke to us at the November 16th General Membership Meeting. He had a long list of actions that he is taking to get the Sheriff s Office running efficiently and effectively. He spoke about border security for the border contiguous areas of Pima County and the challenges that may come with a border wall as it relates to the Tohono O odham lands to our west. He also spoke about the changes to processing at the Pima County Jail such as a high-powered, medical grade x-ray to assist in the searches of inmates as they enter the facility. This will help cut down problems with smuggling in contraband. He has an office at that facility and is trying to be there once a week to deal with some of the training of staff and process changes. He said that he is going to have ICE agents notified when an illegal immigrant is released from the jail and that he may actually have one staffed onsite at all times. On a lighter note, we spoke to him about a new program that is rolling out with the use of comfort dogs for the jail guests. This was a one-on -one discussion. This has already been shown to cut down on some of the fighting and that gives employees much needed comfort. Thank you to all the members who worked on this event. Thanks to Tiana for cooking the BBQ and for all those members who helped with setup and cleanup. Also, to members who brought all the other items that make these events a success.

5 VETERAN S STOCKING SEW A THON We met, we drank coffee and we made beautiful things. Sunday, December 10th, we gathered at Brewd Coffee Shop to create works of art and love. As part of the Americanism Project we started with the felt stocking cutouts (thank you Cindy Coleman) and too many ribbons, beads and bells from which to choose for adornment. Glue guns fired up and hand stitchers began to stitch. Norma Corella brought her A-game artistic side and wowed us with her workmanship. Thank you to all who helped make this a fun event - below from left to right - Michelle Ludwig, Lauren Blevins, Lou Ann Preble, Sally Moffett, Kate Preble, Ann Kellison, Leslie Esala, Norma Corella, Cindy Coleman, Dan Duffy and photographer Mary Preble. Lou Ann Preble, Kate Preble and Sally Moffett looking for more bric a brac to sew on. Cindy Coleman showing Dan Duffy a You- Tube video on how to use a needle and thread. On Friday, December 22nd a group of members delivered the stockings to the Veteran s Hospital. They were filled with personal items that members had donated funds for at the Silver Tea.

6 SILVER TEA 2017 J Demara and Michelle Ludwig Norma & Fernando Corella Ann Hollis Dolores Johnston & Lou Ann Preble Saturday, December 2nd, members gathered at the home of Dennis and Jeannie Merideth to kick off our membership efforts for 2018 and to install our Executive Board. We also awarded to Cindy Coleman the Ruth Gaddis Jeffries Award. Congratulations Cindy. The morning was exciting and filled with revelry as we looked back on 2017, focusing on our upcoming election year. Silver was collected for the Marana Veteran s Cemetary and the Veteran s Stocking project. Ann Hollis spoke to us about the fast paced growth at the Cemetary and the building and landscaping challenges. Thank you to the Merideths and Kate Preble for chairing this event. And to the committee who worked hard to put this event together. Thank you Leo and Tiana for your continued Egg Nog support. It is also our tradition to have our past Presidents pour tea and coffee to members. Judging from the photos - we had a nice time. Leslie Esala, Sally Moffett & Dennis Merideth Ann Kellison (back to us), Penny MacArthur & Liz Isaak
