The day, which included numerous on-course activities, contests, raffles and a lot of food, raised a record $150,000. The net proceeds from the tournament will support unfunded programs at Community Living Mississauga. "It's thanks to the support from our donors, our golfers and our community partners that make this tournament a success," explained Greg Symons, Chair of the Golf Classic. "Without them, none of this would be possible." Event photos on pg. 2 TIM HORTONS SMILE COOKIES SUPPORT UNFUNDED PROGRAMS The Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign brought smiles to children and teens supported by Community Living Mississauga this year. Tim Hortons guests purchased Smile Cookies at participating Mississauga restaurants from September 14th to 21st and 100 percent of the proceeds were donated by Tim Hortons restaurant owners to support Community Living Mississauga. We were very excited to expand our long-standing relationship with Tim Hortons through this year s Smile Cookie Campaign, said Eugene Nolin, President of the Board of Directors at Community Living Mississauga. Proceeds from the Smile Cookie Campaign will go towards Community Living Mississauga s unfunded leisure and recreational programs including the Summer and March Break programs supporting over 200 children and teens to have a fun summer, participating in the life of their community alongside their nondisabled peers. Community Living Mississauga and local Tim Hortons restaurants have a long-standing relationship. Twentyfive individuals supported by Community Living Mississauga currently work at 21 Tim Hortons restaurants across the city and Tim Hortons has twice received recognition as Employer of the Year from Community Living Mississauga s Employment Resource Centre.

3 MATHESON BASE SITE GRAND OPENING MPP Amrit Mangat joined with community members and base site participants on Sept. 10th to officially open Community Living Mississauga s newest Community Base Site on Matheson Blvd. The goal of each Base Site is to provide individuals who have an intellectual disability with opportunities to participate in meaningful social, recreational and leisure activities throughout the day, explained Eugene Nolin, President of Community Living Mississauga s Board of Directors. The Matheson location is the fourth Base Site to be operated by Community Living Mississauga. Each location has approximately 30 individuals participating in on-site activities as well as activities in the community. Individuals choose activities and are supported to fully participate within the community of Mississauga. SUPERIOR PACKAGING GRAND OPENING Mayor Bonnie Crombie joined the Grand Opening Celebration for Superior Packaging on Oct. 1st. 4 TAKING INCLUSIVE EMPLOYMENT TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL The Employment Resource Centre is continually seeking to build new partnerships within the community through securing employment opportunities for the individuals we support. In November 2013, Community Living Mississauga s Employment Resource Centre partnered with Whole Foods Market to provide an employment opportunity for one individual, Holly, and has since expanded this partnership to hiring another individual, David, and continues to promote an inclusive, welcoming work environment. Whole Foods Market has always been committed to community involvement and promoting an environment that is welcoming for not only their customers but also their team members. Both Holly and David have shared that they feel a part of the Whole Foods Market family and have experienced firsthand the value that Whole Foods Market has for their team members, investing in their personal and professional growth. Holly and David have both undergone extensive training to not only master their tasks within their positions but also to understand the culture, atmosphere and values Whole Foods Market stands behind. Holly began her employment as a Cashier Assistant and has since taken on the responsibility of training new front end hires. I enjoy working at Whole Foods Market and I am really happy going into work each day, says Holly. David has only recently started working at Whole Foods Market and has already taken on the roles of both a Front End Assistant and Maintenance Associate. Whole Foods Market is a great company to work for. From the first time I have been in the store, I have felt welcomed and felt that this is where I can grow as an employee, says David. 6 JOAN AND GORDON MURLESS FUND HELPS FAMILIES The Joan and Gordon Murless Fund was established in 2014 in the hope that families would be encouraged to plan for the future. The funding is available as a result of a generous donation to Community Living Mississauga for the purpose of assisting families to cover part of the cost in developing wills. To date, more than 40 families have signed on to participate in this unique funding opportunity. Families requesting assistance from the Murless Fund will be required to sign an Agreement, attend two information sessions and develop a plan as well as completing their wills. If you are interested in participating or would like further information, please contact Sue Taggart at PARENT AND SIBLING GROUPS CONTINUE TO GROW Everything evolves over time, so it is no surprise that the success of the original parent group at Community Living Mississauga has led to the creation of other groups for families! If you are the parent of a child older than 10 years of age receiving support from Community Living Mississauga and are also interested in meeting with other parents then please join us on October 27 at 7 pm as we celebrate our 5th year together!! Every two or three months the group convenes to connect with one another, talk over concerns, share resources, discuss current affairs and learn from one another. members who look forward to the opportunity to meet and network with others. If you are a sibling over 18 years of age who has a brother or sister receiving support from Community Living Mississauga then please join us on November 24 at 7 pm as we celebrate our 1st year together! The Sibling Group, which gets together every 2-3 months, is an opportunity for siblings to network, share experiences and talk over concerns. To learn more about these groups or to add your name to the mailings list, contact Sue Taggart at ext or suet@clmiss.ca UPCOMING SIBLING WORKSHOPS Sibling Workshops are offered to children who have a brother or sister with a diagnosis of an intellectual disability and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder. We offer monthly sessions for children between the ages of 6-12 years old. The workshops are held at a safe place and in a structured environment and are developed to focus on sharing experiences, learning about other disabilities and meeting new people. Our dedicated group of university, college and high school students joined forces to offer children and teens another summer to remember. Through our community connections, the children and youth who participated were able to enjoy a wide variety of activities each week. Thanks to the staff and supervisors who worked in the Children s Summer Support Program, the Summer Teen Activity Program and the Summer Work Experience Program for their dedication and hard work!
