COANIQUEM BCF is a registered charitable organization with the mission to support the rehabilitation of burned children throughout the Americas.

COANIQUEM has been working for over 39 years to improve the lives of thousands of burned children from all over Latin America. No matter where they come from, they deserve the best medical care and support to recover their lives after the burn trauma. In almost 40 years, 130,000 patients have received free rehabilitation treatment in the three Burn Centers of COANIQUEM in Chile.

Pediatría Enfermería Cirugía Reconstructiva Fisiatría COANIQUEM s holistic approach combines medical attention, restorative healing and comprehensive rehabilitation programs to treat physical and psychological scars. Trained professionals from a wide range of specializations are part of the multidisciplinary staff: medical doctors, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and social workers. Teachers at the school on campus ensure that children of all ages who are undergoing treatments keep up with their education. Kinesiología Terapia Ocupacional

COANIQUEM BCF s work towards the young burn victims. Children s Treatment COANIQUEM treated 81 children during 2017, thanks to COANIQUEM BCF s contribution of $64,000.

COANIQUEM BCF and Packard Foundation Casabierta s renovations project was possible thanks to Packard Foundation s grant and a private donation. Since August 2017, the residence on campus offers the children undergoing treatment a more welcoming and energy efficient building, with extra bedrooms for post surgery patients and more areas for the staff. Casabierta hosts patients and parents that come from distant Regions of Chile and abroad. They receive free room and board and School education during therapy.

Antofagasta Santiago - Headquarters Puerto Montt Children treated in Rehabilitation Centers Antofagasta Santiago 6,372 6,382 6,267 Puerto Montt Total 8,010 8,073 7,940 In 2017: 3,923 were new patients, 62% were children under 5 years and the most common age was 1 year old.

COANIQUEM published the second edition of the Guide for the Diagnosis and Ambulatory Treatment of Children Burns for its distribution in health centers accross the country.

Rotary Club s support RC Bottmingen-Birsek (Switzerland) financed a three years project that finances tissue expanders needed for reconstructive surgeries. RC Laguna Niguel, California, financed through a Global Grant of $62,000 the implementation of a Data Center and development of the Electronic Medical Records System that allows to switch from paper files to digital records.

Mayrek Betancourt from HOSPITAL DEL NIÑO JOSE RENAN ESQUIVEL, Ciudad de Panamá. Rosario Reto from INSTITUTO NACIONAL DEL NIÑO SAN BORJA, Lima Perú. COANIQUEM in Chile provides professional training to medical personnel from other countries in the region, thereby expanding the scope of available treatment to children from those countries. Over 400 professionals and technicians have been trained. In 2017, 40 professionals from Argentina, Bolivia, Perú, Panamá, Guatemala and Costa Rica joined the program.

The Healing Tree: The power of a story to relief pain. The second phase of the project SafeNiños was implemented thanks to Designmatters from ArtCenter College of Pasadena. The environmental graphic design and The Healing Tree storybook immerse the children and families in the adventure of healing.

The Healing Tree is an immersive environmental design project that reimagines the Burn Center as a child-friendly world that reduces patient stress and optimizes conditions for healing. COANIQUEM BCF

COANIQUEM BCF Animal characters of The Healing Tree storybook symbolyze the different therapies that the children must undergo. Within this world, the patients are accompanied by characters Camilla and Lucas and a cast of animal characters that represent the different treatments offered at COANIQUEM. The animals teach them important values to face their healing path.

President Michelle Bachelet visits COANIQUEM and promotes the campaign called Alto al Fuego focused on the prevention of children burns by fireworks during the holidays season.

COANIQUEM BCF s Board of Directors Pesident Jorge Rojas Zegers Santiago, Chile Vice President Mark Wilson Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Secretary Sergio Dominguez Santiago, Chile Treasurer Carolyn Schuetz Alameda, California, USA Directors Bodil Carvacho San Ramón, California, USA Pablo Cruz Clara Montanez Kathy Coyle Santiago, Chile Bethesda, Maryland, USA Livermore, CA We are devoted towards healing the wounds, easing the pain and recovering self-esteem. We believe that COANIQUEM provides the highest quality care to rehabilitate and reinsert the burned child back into society. We believe that we can improve with our work the lives of the burn victims. We believe that a child treated at COANIQUEM has a better chance of leading a fulfilling life. Christian Storaker Gustavo Covacevich Santiago, Chile Miami, FL COANIQUEM BCF

This holistic program is provided totally free to these brave young kids (from Chile and all over Latin America). There are many extreme cases whose burns can cause not only physical disfigurement and trauma, but also an emotional burden and ostracism as they step out into society. That said, it is totally humbling to observe the individual optimism of these amazing children as they deal with their day-to-day challenges. Mark and Nancy Wilson COANIQUEM BCF

Sponsor the therapy of a burned child Hi, I am Maite. I live in San Antonio, Chile. When I was 15 months old, I touched a stove and my hands got burned. I ve undergone surgeries on both hands. In March, the doctor said that I have to continue therapy, but I can stop using the gloves for a while because my hands are doing great. I will be evaluated in December again, to see if I need surgery due to my growth. I am in second grade and I have many friends. Thank you for supporting my treatment in COANIQUEM. One of the most meaningful ways to support the work of COANIQUEM is to sponsor the treatment of one of COANIQUEM s young patients. Each sponsor will receive progress reports, getting this way an update of the rehabilitation process. If you would like to sponsor a child, the cost for rehabilitation, room and board, education and all necessary compression clothing is about $1000 per year. To assist in raising funds necessary to provide treatment for more children you may contribute to COANIQUEM BCF, the Burned Children Foundation, a private nonprofit established in the US in Your donation may be deducted from your federal income tax according to COANIQUEM BCF tax exempt status - Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
