2 We couldn t do it without you Luke Harding Luke Harding from Haverfordwest raised 12, for ward 10, Withybush Hospital. Luke was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and a secondary cancer in the form of a brain metastasis and decided that he wanted to do something positive and began to fundraise for ward 10. A friend of Luke s ran the Auckland marathon and had some wrist bands made using the slogan #teamharding #togetherstronger. He sent Luke the remaining bands and Luke decided to sell these through a crowdfunding page asking people for donations towards ward 10. Luke sold every one within days. 2 Emma Nicholas- Evans Emma Nicholas- Evans from Blaenau raised 4, for Glangwili Hospital s Paediatric Physiotherapy Department by running her first ever half marathon. In July 2015, Emma s daughter Elin, then 15 years old, was suddenly taken ill. Elin was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome, a life changing condition which occurs when the body s immune system attacks the nervous system. After Elin was discharged from hospital the only course of rehabilitation was through rigorous physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. Emma wanted to fundraise to say thank you and to give something back to the team at Glangwili.

3 Aberystwyth Ladies Circle Aberystwyth Ladies Circle supported two of Bronglais Hospital s services in 2016/17. They raised money for Angharad Children s Ward and Gwenllian Maternity Unit by organising a series of events. Their efforts raised a total of 6,200. They also presented a cheque for 3,070 to Ystwyth and Ceredig Wards in May 2016 and will be supporting Enlli Ward (a mental health assessment ward for adults over 65 years of age) in 2017/18. #TeamHywelDda Cardiff Half Marathon Runners 2016 We are extremely proud that so many colleagues decided to run the Cardiff Half Marathon in October 2016 and fundraise for our local healthcare services. 23 members of staff took part in the event, raising almost 15,000 in the process. Our inspirational colleagues ran for different wards and services across our three counties. The fantastic achievements of #teamhyweldda will make a significant contribution to supporting services above and beyond what the NHS can provide. Thank you, we are truly grateful for your support. 3

4 How we made a difference We are extremely grateful for the continued generosity of our patients, their families and our local communities. Thanks to your support during 2016/17 we were able to fund a wide range of services and activities over and above those provided by the NHS for the benefit of our patients. Pembrokeshire Haematology and Oncology Day Unit (PHODU) A brand new state of the art day unit opened its doors at Withybush Hospital to provide a better patient experience in a modern facility tailored for patients at different stages of cancer. The unit is a tribute to the people of Pembrokeshire and the charities who made it possible through their generosity and fundraising efforts over many years. This is a wonderful achievement that will benefit our local population for many years to come. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to staff, partners, charity and fundraising representatives who have made this happen for our local population. 5 New chairs for stroke patients at Ystwyth Ward, Bronglais Hospital Thanks to your support, Bronglais Hospital s Ystwyth Ward recently purchased three new specialist chairs and inflatable pressure cushions to help protect patients recovering from stroke from the risk of pressure damage. The chairs and cushions are used on a daily basis to aid patients with their recovery and during therapy. New Cryotherapy Unit at Prince Philip Hospital Your generosity has enabled the purchase of a state of the art Cryotherapy Unit for the Interventional Bronchoscopy Service at Prince Philip Hospital. Cryotherapy (freezing) is an advanced technique used during bronchoscopy to help remove tissue blocking the airways to the lungs. The new equipment will serve patients across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire as well as other Health Boards. 5
