Thank you to Pat & the kitchen team for ensuring the preparation, cooking & storage of food are to such a high & safe standard. Resident of the week: We discussed at the recent residents & relatives meeting introducing, as a new theme within the activities Resident of the Week it will be the choice of the resident what they would like to do, where they would like to go, what they would like to eat etc that week. We could also invite families in for an afternoon tea if this is something they would like to do. Week 8 th April Michael Bailey was our very first Resident of the week & enjoyed a trip on the Severn Valley Railway on Monday 10 th April, as this has been his lifelong passion. Michael & the other ladies & gentlemen who went along had a fantastic day. Michael said he enjoyed every minute & he could not thank everyone enough. During this week Michael also went to get his outdoor electric wheelchair sorted out which he is looking forward to so he can get out & about more. Midweek saw Michael needing a rest but on Thursday there was entertainment in the home which he enjoyed watching & Good Friday saw him taking part in the Easter Bonnet Parade. 2
3 Week 15 th April Winnie Wilkes went to Villa Park to watch her beloved Aston Villa play against Reading but sadly The Villa lost 3-1. Winnie was supported to the match by Collette Matheson who very kindly gave up her time to take Winnie to see the team she has supported for many years, this was also a special occasion for Collette as she had never been to a large football stadium & she said she had a fantastic time. Winnie spent time talking to other fans & reminiscing about the clubs history. This was made possible by Lisa Dews securing free tickets from the club for Winnie when she contact them to tell them about Winnie & that she was a fan, so thank you to Lisa & Aston Villa for making this possible for her. Winnie also wanted to go out shopping during her week & to the nurseries which she really enjoyed. 3
4 Week 22 nd April This week it is Donald Clarke who is the resident of the week. Donald is an avid sports fan & used to enjoy taking part in these sports. We had our fund raising five a side football tournament on Saturday 22 nd & Donald was taken along to watch the matches by Heather Mitchell, Donald got very involved telling the teams they were off side & cursing the referee, he had a lovely time. Also he had the opportunity to see part of a cricket match although it was from a distance he still really enjoyed this. 4
5 Week 29 th April The resident of the week is John Godfrey. John is planning on going shopping with our activities coordinator Heather but also to see birds of prey at Webbs garden centre in Hagley. The Journey started in Kidderminster & we travelled on the Flying Scotsman from Kidderminister to Bewdley, then onto Arley, Highley, Hampton Loade & then finally reaching our destination of Bridgenorth after 16 miles. On the way everyone enjoyed the whole steam train experience & the feeling of going back in time with all the signage & vintage items along the route & taking in the spectacular views of the Severn Valley & the River Severn. The ladies & gentlemen enjoyed refreshments along the way & our picnic lunch which had been prepared for the trip. Although several ladies & gentlemen & team members enjoyed the trip it had been arranged for resident Michael Bailey as he has a lifelong passion for trains & this was something which he has missed being part of since having a stroke so it was a special day for him to enjoy his passion again. We will definitely be having another trip in the near future on the Severn Valley Railway as it was such an enjoyable day for all. 8

Lisa then recruited the help of Gaz Evans who is involved with local teams to help co-ordinate the whole event as we had twelve teams wanting to take part, she was also supported by Health care Assistant Christine Taylor & everyone worked hard to ensure it was well organised & professional. The event took place at South Bromsgrove School on Saturday 22 nd April & everyone who attended had a fantastic day, those who were part of the tournament & those who just came along to watch & support, the sun even shone!
