3 Based on the best-selling novel, Water for Elephants stars Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson, and Christoph Waltz. It s the story of a veterinary student (class of 31) who suddenly drops out after a horrific personal tragedy. He leaves home, wanders aimlessly, and hops the first train that comes his way. But this is no ordinary freight train. His spontaneous decision and fateful ride on the Benzini Bros. Circus train transport him to forbidden love and a destiny he never saw coming. After Hollywood obtained the rights to author Sara Gruen s page turner, they set out to assemble a great cast and replicate the story s historical elements as accurately as possible. We believe they ve succeeded on both counts. In 2009 the movie s director Francis Lawrence (left) Baraboo s fingerprints are all over this film boarded a plane and landed in Ringlingville. Before long his creative mind went to work absorbing like a sponge what Circus World Museum has to offer. What did he take back to Hollywood? Some old pictures. More than a dozen circus wagons. 4 CIRCUS WORLD MUSEUM has a library and research center that attracts visitors worldwide, the largest collection of circus wagons on earth, and Big Top performances by family favorites and fresh new faces. In other words, just the right mix of education & entertainment. Built in 1915, this is one of the finest examples of palatial style movie theatre design in the country. In 1989 when its Milwaukee-based owner entertained the idea of converting it into a multi-screen theatre, it was purchased by a local non-profit determined to save it, A.R.T. FRIENDS.
