3 IN 2006, THIS SECTION WILL BE ASKED OF ALL MAIN AMPS RESPONDENTS LIVING IN GAUTENG AND KWAZULU-NATAL BUT ONLY IF THE WORD OUTDOOR IS PRINTED ON THE AMPS 2006 SAMPLING SHEET. Record on CAPI whether or not the respondent is part of the Outdoor sample. In additional to filling in the Radio Diary and Product questionnaire for the next 7 days, the respondent will also be asked to carry an Outdoor meter, the Npod with him/her for the next 9 days. After you have placed the Diary (and supplementary Diaries) and the Product Questionnaire and you ve shown the respondent how to fill in both documents, you will continue to ask Questions X1 to X4. X1. Read out the fairly long introduction to the respondent. This introduction explains to the respondent that he/she was specially chosen to participate in the Nielsen Outdoor study that involves him/her carrying a Npod over a 9 day period, beginning the next day. Show the respondent the additional OUTDOOR GIFT (Travel Mug) that he/she will receive at the end of the 9-day period when you will come back to collect the Npod. The introduction will then further explain what the Npod is: it measures the outdoor advertising media like billboards, bus shelters, etc. that the respondent will be exposed to during the 9-day period. It also explains how the data is captured and how it will be analysed. It also puts the respondent s mind at ease that his/her privacy will not be invaded and that the results will not be released to any unauthorized person or company. Explain to the respondent that he/she will also be entered into a lucky draw to win one of two, R4 000 cash prizes. Please note that Question X1 flows over 3 CAPI screens. The next screen will ask you to indicate whether or not the respondent has agreed to become a panel member and carry the Npod with him/her over the next 9 days. If the respondent refuses, please record the reason in full. 4 X2. Thank the respondent for agreeing to participate in the survey. CAPI will prompt you to hand over the Npod to the respondent. RECORD THE NPOD S SERIAL NUMBER. IT IS A 4-DIGIT NUMBER FOLLOWED BY A / AND ANOTHER 1-DIGIT NUMBER. TYPE IN BOTH. Open the box and show the respondent the Npod and its charger. Also show the respondent the belt clip, the suction cup and the place where the charger plugs into the meter. OUTDOOR RESPONDENTS, LIVING IN A METRO/CITY/ LARGE TOWN AREA AND WHO PERSONALLY OWN/ USE/MAINTAIN A MOTOR VEHICLE ARE GOING TO BE GIVEN A HOLDER (CALLED THE ELEPOD) THAT THEY CAN USE TO HOLD THE NPOD WHILE DRIVING. QUESTIONS 3 WILL COME UP ON YOUR SCREEN FOR THE QUALIFYING RESPONDENTS ONLY. X3. Read out X3 to the respondent in full. Hand over the Elepod and demonstrate to the respondent how the Elepod can be used on either the dashboard or at the back window of their motor vehicle. It is important to emphasize that the Npod must be kept upright so that the aerial points upwards to the sky. You must tell the respondent that the Elepod will be theirs to keep. Besides holding the Npod upright, the other reason for using the Elepod is for security reasons as we do not want respondents to become smash-andgrab victims. CAPI will ask you to indicate whether the respondent accepted the Elepod or not. If the respondent does not want the Elepod, you will be asked to type in the reason on CAPI. X2. 5 ALL RESPONDENTS GO THROUGH QUESTION X4. X4. Tell the respondent that you will now go through some general instructions with him/her. Start off by handing over the Welcome Letter, followed by the Quick Instructions, Frequently Asked Questions, Npod Questionnaire and Reminder Card. WELCOME LETTER Read through the welcome letter with the respondent and make sure that he/she understands the instructions. IMPORTANT POINTS TO EMPHASIZE TO THE RESPONDENT: 1. Only on the day that the respondent receives the Npod (i.e. today), it needs to be placed outdoors in full view of the sky for 30 minutes (this can be in the day or night). 2. After 30 minutes, the device must be brought back indoors and placed on the charger until the respondent leaves the house the next day (tomorrow). The device does not need to be turned off when placing it on the charger. 3. Never try to open the Npod. 4. First plug the charger into the wall, then plug the charger cord into the Npod. 5. Put the Npod on the charger when it is not being used. 6. Carry the Npod with you everyday when you leave the house even if it is only to go to the shop or pick up the kids from school. 7. The Npod can be carried in your pocket, handbag or on your belt. 8. The respondent must know where to switch the Npod on and off and how to use the suction cup and beltclip. 9. The Npod must be kept at least 8 centimeters away from a cell phone. 10. Respondents must treat their Npod like they treat their cellphone. Do not drop it, do not drop it into water, do not try to open the meter. 11. The Npod, charger and Npod questionnaire must be returned to its box after the 9-day period. Die toestel hoef nie afgesit te word as dit op die laaier geplaas word nie. 3. Moet nooit die Npod probeer oopmaak nie. 4. Die laaier moet eers by die kragpunt in die muur ingeprop word, daarna word die laaierkoord in die Npod gedruk. 5. Plaas die Npod op die laaier wanneer dit nie gebruik word nie. 6. Dra die Npod saam elke dag wanneer die huis verlaat word selfs al is dit net om gou winkel toe te gaan of die kinders by die skool op te tel. 7. Die Npod kan in jou sak, handsak of aan die gordelgedra word. 8. Die respondent moet weet waar om die Npod aan en af te sit en hoe om die suigdoppie en gordelknip te gebruik. 9. Die Npod moet ten minste 8 sentimeters van n selfoon afgehou word. 10. Respondente moet die Npod behandel soos hulle n selfoon sal behandel. Moet dit nie laat val nie, moenie dit in water laat val nie, moenie die meter oopmaak nie. 11. Die Npod, laaier en Npod Vraelys moet terug in die oorspronklike boksie gesit word na die 9-dae periode. 6 QUICK INSTRUCTIONS To summarise, hand over the small Quick Instructions pamphlet to the respondent so that he/she can see that there is not much to be done on his/her side to participate in this survey. Please write in your (or your manager s) telephone number on the last page of this document in the space provided. REMINDER CARD Hand over the Reminder Card (printed in colour) to the respondent and ask him/her to place it on the fridge (it has a magnetic strip at the back) or any other place that he/she visits frequently everyday. This will remind the respondent to carry the Npod every day and to charge the device every night. 8 NPOD QUESTIONNAIRE Explain to the respondent that in order for us to fully understand his/her experience during the measurement period, you are going to place an Npod Questionnaire with him/her. As explained earlier, it will only take ½ a minute per day to answer a few short questions. Hand over an Npod Questionnaire (in the respondent s preferred language) to the respondent. Show the respondent how to fill in his/her Npod Questionnaire. 1. Write in the Questionnaire Number and the Npod s Serial number on the Front page in the space provided. Also write down the respondent s name and address. Please keep a record of the Questionnaire Number and Npod Serial Number for your own control purposes. 2. Turn to page 1. Fill in the day and date as to when respondent s 9-day measurement period starts and ends. The first day, is tomorrow (the day after the AMPS interview). Work out what the day and date will be, 9 days later. See example alongside. In this example the Npod was placed on Friday, the 10 th February, the measurement period therefore, starts on Saturday 11 th February and ends on Sunday, 19 th February. 3. Question 1 in the booklet must be filled in daily during the 9 days of the measurement period. The four questions (a to d) that must be answered daily are short and easy. The answers must be recorded on page 2 by just ticking the appropriate block if the answer is true. If not, leave it empty. As an example, use the respondent s travelling pattern of today and go through the 4 questions, ticking the appropriate blocks in the Placement column on page 2. Please fill in the Day of Week and Date in the spaces provided in the grid on page 2, do this for the placement day and for Day 1 to Day 9. See example alongside. This example shows that the respondent left the house and travelled for non-work related reasons today. He did not tick the blocks for questions b) and d) because he didn t take the Npod with him today and did not travel more than 300km today. NPOD VRAELYS Verduidelik aan die respondent dat om sy/haar ondervinding tydens die meet periode ten volle te verstaan, gaan u n Npod Vraelys by hom//haar laat. Die eerste dag is môre (die dag na die AMPS onderhoud). Werk dan uit wat die dag en datum 9 dae later sal wees. Sien voorbeeld langsaan. In dié voorbeeld was die Npod op Vrydag, 10 Februarie geplaas, daarom is die meet periode van Saterdag, 11 Februarie tot Sondag, 19 Februarie. 3. Vraag 1 in die boekie moet daagliks ingevul word tydens die volle 9-dag metingsperiode. Die vier vragies (a tot d) wat daagliks beantwoord moet word is kort en maklik. Die antwoorde moet op bladsy 2 noteer word deur net n regmerkie in die toepaslike blokkie te maak as die antwoord waar is, indien nie, los dit leeg. Gebruik die respondent se reispatroon van vandag en gaan deur die 4 vrae en merk die toepaslike blokkies in die Plasing kolom op bladsy 2. Vul asseblief die Dag van Week en Datum in die spasies wat in die tabel op bladsy 2 daarvoor gelaat is, doen dit vir die dag van plasing en vir Dag 1 tot Dag 9. Sien voorbeeld langsaan. Die voorbeeld toon dat die respondent vandag die huis verlaat het en dat hy vir nie-werks verwante redes gereis het. Hy het nie die blokkies vir die b) en d) vrae gemerk nie want hy het nie die Npod vandag gedra nie en het nie meer as 300km vandag gereis nie. Page 7

12 NPOD PICK-UP PROCEDURE Note that you will be collecting the Diary and Product Questionnaire at the same time as collecting the Npod i.e. on the 10 th day after you placed everything with the respondent. When you collect the Npod, please make sure that both the meter and the charger are inside the box. Go through the Npod Questionnaire to ensure it has been completed. Put this questionnaire into the box with the meter and charger and send it like this to Head Office. On receipt of the Npod and its charger, you can hand over the Outdoor gift to the respondent. Also remind him/her about the entry of their name into the draw for R The Npod must now be handed to your branch manager/supervisor. The box with its full contents will be sent to Head Office. THE NPOD MAY NOT BE OPENED OR FIDDLED WITH BY INTERVIEWERS OR THEIR MANAGERS. Once the Npod s data has been downloaded in Johannesburg Head Office, the disc will be formatted, inserted back into the meter, the meter will be charged and then be sent out for placement again. NPOD OPTEL PROSEDURE Let daarop dat u die Dagboek en Produkte Vraelys op dieselfde tyd sal optel as wanneer u die Npod gaan haal d.i. op die 10de dag nadat alles by die respondent geplaas is. Met ontvangs van die Npod en sy laaier kan u die Buitemuurse geskenk aan die respondent oorhandig. Herinner hom/haar ook daaraan dat sy/haar naam in n gelukkige trekking vir R4 000 geplaas sal word. Die Npod moet nou aan u taktoesighouer/ bestuurder gegee word. Die boksie met sy volle inhoud sal Hoofkantoor toe gestuur word. DIE NPOD MAG NIE OOPGEMAAK OF MEE GEPEUTER WORD DEUR ONDERVRAERS OF BESTUURDERS NIE.
