Zoarski, M.D., University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD Course Description: The University of Maryland, the American Society of Spine Radiology and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine are pleased to announce that they are jointly sponsoring a Hands-On Image-Guided Spine Intervention

2 Course on October 2, 3, and 4, 2009 at the University of Maryland, 22 South Greene Street, in Baltimore, Maryland. This three-day course is designed to provide basic instruction in understanding and performing image-guided spine interventions for treatment of back pain. The course will feature nine hours of classroom instruction, and twelve hours of small group hands-on cadaver lab training for participants to develop practical skills. Topics will include: Pharmacology for Common Spine Interventions, Vertebroplasty/Kyphoplasty, Sacroplasty, Acetabular Augmentation, Sacrococcygeal Injections, Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injections, Selective Lumbar Nerve Root Blocks, Lumbar Diskography and FAD, Lumbar Facet Joint Injection, Ganglionic Blocks, Sacroiliac Joint Injection, Spinal Cord Stimulator Placement, C1-C2 Punctures, Cement Preparation, Coblation for Tumor and Complication Avoidance. The course will be limited to 36 attendees, and will be on a first-come, firstserved basis. Target Audience: Radiologists, Neuroradiologists, Neurosurgeons, Pain Management Physicians, Anesthesiologists, and other clinicians with an interest in spinal imaging and image-guided intervention. Course Objectives: At the conclusion of this course the attendee will be able to: Evaluate clinical and radiographic findings to determine whether a patient is an appropriate candidate for various spine interventional procedures Identify the newest interventional and therapeutic spine techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of back pain in regards to lumbar diskography, lumbar facet injections, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, sacroplasty, tumor coblation, spinal cord stimulator placement, sympathetic blockades, lumbar epidural steroid injections, and selective lumbar nerve blocks. Attendees will also develop hand skills in these cases. Identify complications and be able to avoid them in the future. Provide post-procedural care and follow-up for patients who have undergone various spine interventional procedures. Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the American Society of Spine Radiology. The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. *The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 21 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM.
