2 Statement of need: There remains a significant lack of cardiovascular prevention, lifestyle and dietary education in medical training today. Rather than a focus on prevention, there is a greater focus on end-stage cardiac disease treatment. Additionally, there are practice gaps on optimal use of the ever-expanding list of emerging therapies including lipid therapies, fish oils, diabetes and hypertension medications, anti-platelets and even therapies targeting inflammation. Key areas that require more consideration from clinicians are assessment of patients for baseline risk and risk modification with imaging, genetic testing, risk algorithms and lifestyle counseling. Furthermore, there is a lack of emphasis on the unique issues faced in the prevention of cardiovascular disease specific to addressing women s needs. In particular, the unique risks posed by cancer treatment, hormonal state, inflammatory disease and cardiovascular syndromes unique to women all warrant further analysis. There is a movement through a multitude of national organizations to change the current paradigm in medical education to address these deficiencies and more effectively impact population health. This two-day interdisciplinary and interprofessional conference will bring together clinicians with a spotlight on diet and lifestyle for cardiovascular risk reduction and cardiovascular prevention in women, areas often overlooked in medical education. This continuing medical education conference will further provide a comprehensive look at key therapies and updates for the clinical care provider and highlight the latest medical advances and research in cardiovascular prevention. The common theme throughout this conference will be comprehensive and innovative care. Through lecture, case-based learning, panel discussion and a unique patient experience session, attendees will leave with a better understanding of the lifestyle and medical therapies available to improve atherosclerotic heart disease risk. Attendees will also gain an increased awareness of issues specific women and the improve their ability to better assess a patient's lifestyle, offering practical recommendations and referring them to the appropriate specialties to ensure overall wellness and an integrative approach to patient care. Program objectives: All CME activities are intended to improve patient care, safety and outcomes. At the conclusion of this conference participants should be able to: Discuss specific considerations for cardiovascular disease prevention in women Describe lifestyle and medical therapies available to improve atherosclerotic heart disease risk Incorporate ideas on how to bolster physician awareness and counseling for the prevention of cardiovascular disease Analyze risk assessment tools available for lifestyle and prevention of cardiovascular disease Summarize current, new and upcoming guidelines for cholesterol, hypertension, lifestyle, cardiovascular risk in women and the treatment of diabetes Target audience: MDs, PAs, NPs, RNs in the areas of Cardiology, Endocrinology, Ob/GYN, Internal and Family Medicine, along with other medical professionals who care for patients that will benefit from attending. CME accreditation: is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit designation: designates this live educational activity for 11 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
