2 Neuroimaging IS A TEAM SPORT UTSW North Campus UTD Campus
3 Welcome Neuroimaging IS A TEAM SPORT This symposium will share the results of successful neuroimaging research projects that have evolved between researchers at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and The University of Texas at Dallas. As the symposium title suggests, neuroimaging is a team sport that requires collaborations across a diverse set of disciplines, including bioengineering, cognitive neuroscience, neurology, neuropsychology, neurological surgery, psychiatry, and radiology. The joint usage of the Advanced Imaging Research Center by researchers at the two universities has led naturally to the development of cross-institutional projects. These collaborations are critical for unleashing the potential that neuroimaging research has to remediate human suffering as well as to provide an understanding of nature s most complex creation the human brain. We are hopeful that this symposium will lay the groundwork for significant future successes. We welcome all of you to this symposium and celebrate the collaborative spirit of the neuroimaging community at UTSW and. Thank you for joining us! The Conference Organizers Denise C. Park, PhD The University of Texas at Dallas Joseph Madjian, MD The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Rathan Subramaniam, MD, PhD The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center

8 Thank You We would like to express our gratitude to the many people that came together to make the symposium happen. Special thanks to the symposium speakers for such thoughtful and stimulating presentations. We are particularly grateful to Cliff Jack of the Mayo Clinic for his challenging, forward-leaning keynote address and for his consistent generosity in contributing both his intellect and time to the UTSW/UTD imaging community. The symposium was jointly organized by staff at the UTSW Peter O Donnell Jr. Brain Institute and the Center for Vital Longevity (CVL). Great leadership and a strong collaborative spirit on the part of Teresa Fain at UTSW, and Alex Lyda and Lisa Ball at UTD made working on the project a pleasure. Important contributions were additionally made by Julie Kirchem (UTSW), Sol Jerome (UTD), and Ashley Kuvet (UTD). We are deeply appreciative of the terrific effort extended by Cary Delmark and Janice Scribner to design a working conference web site for us virtually overnight. Finally, a special word of thanks to Chris Madden, Hobson Wildenthal, Inga Musselman and Joe Pancrazio for unflagging support of this effort. Denise Park, Ph.D, Joseph Maldjian, MD, and Rathan Subramanium, MD Conference Organizers
