5 James R. Howe, MD KEYNOTE ADDRESS James R. Howe, MD is Professor of Surgery and Director of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, IA. He earned his medical degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, trained in General Surgery at Barnes Hospital/Washington University, and did a Surgical Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. His clinical interest is in the surgical management of primary small bowel and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and management of their hepatic metastases. His research interests include clinical studies of NET patients, and understanding the molecular genetics of neuroendocrine tumors at the basic science level.
