1 Tell us something good FEBRUARY 8, 2016 Pharmacy Troy Huddleston Submitted by: Krista Ross, Interim Director of Pharmacy MEET THE PHARMACY Located on a corner of the fourth floor, the hospital pharmacy department is a small, but mighty group of determined pharmacists and technicians. Over the last year we have experienced numerous changes. We have several new employees and two new pharmacies was a year of growth and excitement for us, and we could not be more grateful to share something good about pharmacy with our T.J. coworkers! Michelle Sells, Jess Chesnut, Krista Ross, Sabrina Underwood and Brandy Headrick Faye Jessie INPATIENT PHARMACY The inpatient pharmacy is staffed with five full-time pharmacists and two PRN pharmacists. Krista Ross is the current Interim Director and provides management and support to all four of our pharmacies as well as the 340B Drug Pricing Program. The inpatient pharmacists are Nicole Pursley, Kristi Pierce, Brandy Headrick, Angie Hedgespeth, Troy Huddleston, Jess Chesnut (PRN), and Brad Montgomery (PRN). Many of you know Nicole from our CCARE program. She is our medication safety expert and monitors our medication adverse events as well as works diligently to monitor medication errors throughout the organization. Kristi Pierce is our clinical informatics expert. She has a great skill and understanding of pharmacy practice, medication use process, information systems, healthcare technology and automation. Brandy is our 797/IV room compliance expert and is currently working hard to keep up with the continually changing regulations of sterile compounding. Angie comes with Kristi Pierce, Angie Hedgespeth, Nicole Pursley and Brandy Headrick a large amount of hospital, retail and MTM (Medication Therapy Management) experience. Troy recently came on board with retail experience and is very excited to dig into hospital pharmacy practice. We loved him so much that we hired his wife Tiffany to come on board as a hospital pharmacist as well. Jess Chesnut retired from T.J. Samson after almost 30 years of dedication to our organization, and Brad has both retail and hospital pharmacy background. The pharmacists act as clinical medicine and pharmacokinetic experts. They are available to physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to consult on a variety of treatment protocols. In addition to this role, they do chart review, anticoagulation monitoring, conduct in-services, and training of pharmacy school students. Even though patients may never see a pharmacist during their stay, they are essential providers in their care. Our pharmacists have over 95 years of combined experience and hold doctoral level degrees.
2 Kathy Williams In addition to pharmacists, we have 11 full time and 2 PRN certified pharmacy technicians (CPhTs) that are essential for operating our pharmacy. Our technicians are Faye Jessie (Purchasing Expert/Tech), Kathy Williams, Larry Davidson (Fluids Tech), Beth Henry (Night Tech), Judy Turner (Night Tech), Sabrina Underwood (Lead Tech), Katrina Walker (Lead Tech), Michelle Sells (Lead and Chemotherapy Tech), Amber Fisher, Patty Harrison (PRN), Sara Harris (PRN), Heather Taylor, and Stonetta Ogden. Heather and Stonetta are the two newest members of the pharmacy team. The CPhTs are responsible for restocking medications/fluids all over the hospital, sterile and non-sterile compounding, unit-dosing, station checks, inventory management, ordering medications and so much more. In order to hold the CPhT designation, they must pass a national certification test and renew every two years. The pharmacy runs smoothly because of our devoted technicians! Our pharmacists are very grateful to have such a rock solid technician support T.A. Jackson Amber Fisher and Stonetta Ogden Beth Henry & Judy Turner Michelle Sells ONCOLOGY PHARMACY The Oncology Pharmacy at the Pavilion is one of the newest adventures for the pharmacy department. Brandy Headrick is the Pharmacist in Charge and is assisted in staffing by the other inpatient pharmacists. She is the central driving factor to the success of that pharmacy operation. T.A. Jackson is the Chemotherapy Technician for the Pavilion. He recently completed a national chemotherapy compounding certification course. Michelle Sells is currently in the process of completing this course for the inpatient pharmacy. They are responsible for mixing chemotherapeutic agents, as well as other outpatient intravenous treatments. The Oncology Pharmacy is committed to providing the best service possible to our Oncology and IV Therapy patients. T.A. also takes care of ordering and restocking medications for several departments at the Pavilion including Dialysis, Urgent Care, and the MOB. EMPLOYEE PHARMACY Located on the first floor, the Employee Pharmacy is proud to serve our fellow co-workers. Lee Ellis is the Pharmacist in Charge and brings over 30 years of experience with him. The T.J. Employee Pharmacy is available for all employees and family members with T.J. insurance. In addition to prescriptions, the Employee Pharmacy also carries various over-the-counter products. Stop by to see Lee today! He is open Monday through Friday 7am-3:30pm. Sharon Clouse and Tonya Young T.J. PAVILION RETAIL PHARMACY The T.J. Pavilion Retail Pharmacy opened in July 2015 and provides excellent and convenient care to both employees and the community. It is located on the first floor of the Pavilion, and it is just steps away from the Urgent Care and physician offices. The pharmacy has a discounted drug list offering $4/$10 copays for 30/90 day prescriptions, respectively. They offer a variety of overthe-counter medications and gift items. There is also a convenient drive-thru located just outside the Urgent Care entrance. Sharon Clouse is the Pharmacist in Charge with 33 years of experience. She also works in the Employee Pharmacy as a backup for Lee. Ying-Liang Liu (Jimmy) is one of our newer pharmacists and works both retail and inpatient pharmacy. Jennifer Lee is our newest retail pharmacist and comes with 22 years of retail experience. Mike Chesnut works PRN and is one of the other knowledgeable retail pharmacists with 42 years of experience. That makes a grand total of 98 years of pharmacist experience right at your fingertips! Tonya Young and Heather Spradlin are the dedicated full time pharmacy technicians at our retail pharmacy. Their friendly faces are eager to help you. Please make sure you stop by and say hello if you haven t visited them yet! The Retail Pharmacy is open 8am-8pm Monday through Saturday and 8am-6pm Sunday. Lee Ellis Heather Spradlin and Jennifer Lee

On February 3, in the early morning, the Skilled Nursing Unit experienced a "flood" (literally). A hopper in a soiled utility room overflowed and quickly, clean water began flowing down the hallway. The "flood" happened right at change of shift time which was very fortunate. Also, we were fortunate that this did not happen during the night when fewer staff members would have been readily available to respond. Once the call for help (Signal 9) was announced over the intercom, help came from everywhere, and thankfully everyone came very quickly. Housekeeping, Maintenance, Rehabiliation, and staff from every department and every floor came to our rescue. The water was vacuumed and things returned to normal with no interruption in resident care. Many thanks to the nursing staff on SNU for their quick and appropriate response and to the many other employees who helped save the day. To show our appreciation, SNU employees invited those first responders for cupcakes and popcorn in the afternoon after everything was back to normal. Many thanks to all who helped. Tabby Huffman, SNU Director
