NEWSLETTER Community Education New Richmond, WI Autumn 2015 The School District of New Richmond, Senior Tax Exchange Program (S.T.E.P.) ~Encouraging healthy partnerships between seniors and schools~ We would like to dedicate this issue of the Autumn 2015 issue in loving memory of Mary Dee Condon. Dee passed away unexpectedly on May 31, 2015, doing the things she loved with her family. Dee is survived by her beloved husband, Robert, their children and grand children. Dee was an avid quilter, garden club member, and a very active volunteer in her church community and the STEP program. Dee was one of our very first volunteers in the program and will continue to be missed by all her knew her. New Richmond Community Education continues to provide opportunities in learning and many ways to keep us involved with Winter and Spring activities New Richmond Community Education Cheryl Emerson, Director of Community Education, along with assistants Sara Petersen and part-time Kelly Till are always working diligently to assist STEP workers and the community. The S.T.E.P program continues to be a success in the School District of New Richmond during the school year. The program expands possibilities for future intergenerational opportunities of mentoring and enriching quality of life for staff and students. 2 Page 2 The Community Education Fall Catalog 2015 is here! Packed with lots of classes, places to visit, activities galore and more! I have considered it my community bible and keep it handy. Especially great for new people in the community. There is so much valuable information inside. ~A New Season to Start Something Wonderful~ Five Loaves Clothing Center is now changed to: Two Fish Thrift Store and has relocated in the Old Suzanna s Restaurant building at 118 Homestead Dr. For now, the hours will remain Monday, Thursday, Saturday 9 a.m. 1 p.m and Wednesday 3 p.m. 7 p.m. SNACKS TO GO. For those who like to take snacks with them (nuts, seeds, trail mix, etc.), first wash out an empty Parmesan cheese container (the type with the twin serving top for shaking or spooning) with soap and water and let dry. Remove the label so you can see what s inside and fill with your desired snack. Depending on the size of the snack, you can use either side to dispense your snack, plus a number of persons can share this dispenser by pouring or shaking the snack without everyone placing their hand inside a bowl. Once the snack has been finished, refill and use again. The 8-ounce container is perfect for travel and general use. ~Debt Proof Living~ THE 4-HS Celebrating National 4-H week in St. Croix County October 4-10 Head, Heart, Hands, and Health are the four Hs in 4-H, and they are the four values members work on through fun and engaging programs. The 3rd Annual Final Affairs Conference is a day-long educational opportunity to help community members consider options, ask questions and explore issues regarding personal and legal decisions as they age. This conference will invite elders, caregivers, friends, loved ones, community members and professionals to learn about local resources pertaining to preparation for final affairs. This special day will include complimentary lunch, refreshments, vendors and door prizes for participants. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. We have made a lot of progress but still have a long way to go and need your help!
