Santoro MD, PhD Director of the Italian School of Pelvic Floor Ultrasonography The pelvic floor pathology is frequent and under diagnosed.there are relatively few symptoms to express pelvic floor disorders. These symptoms are generally nonspecific. Constipation, incontinence or pelvic pain may be the expression of organ dysfunction or diseases. The dysfunctions often involve several organs or pelvic structures. Pelvic floor ultrasound is an excellent method to visualize all the compartments of the pelvic floor and to evaluate the anatomy and the function of these structures. It has the advantage to be a non-ionizing, reproductive, office procedure. There are multiple ultrasound modalities and transducers to master and examine the whole pelvic floor. This first Israel pelvic floor ultrasound workshop offers a hands-on opportunity to learn the techniques of anorectal, transvaginal and transperineal ultrasound for practical use in the clinic. It is designed to teach the basic ultrasound methods and interpretation for gastroenterologists, surgeons, radiologists and gynecologists. Any physician treating patients with either anorectal cancer, perineal sepsis, incontinence, inflammatory bowel disease, obstructive defecation, chronic pain, multicompartments dysfunction will benefit from this workshop. Dr. Giulio A. Santoro, MD, Ph.D., was educated at the University of Naples and at the University of Siena, Italy. He is Chief of the Pelvic Floor Unit and Consultant General Surgeon and Colorectal Surgeon, IDepartment of Surgery at Treviso Regional Hospital, Italy. He also holds academic appointments as Professor of Gastrointestinal Surgery at University of Padua, Italy and Honorary Professor at Shandong University, China. Dr.Santoro is Director of the Italian School of Pelvic Floor Ultrasonography. He is board member of the Italian Society of Colorectal Surgery and member of the editorial board of World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Female Pelvic Medicine Reconstructive Surgery and Pelviperineology. He is also author of more then 200 chapters and articles published on peer review journals as well as the author of three books. He was in the faculty of more than 300 international congresses, workshops and courses on imaging and management of Rectal Cancer, Benign Anorectal Diseases and Pelvic Floor Disorders.
