1 TOGETHER W H E R E BETTER DAYS BLOSSOM. Bon Homie, Ltd. Adult Day Care, 470 North Lewis Road, Limerick PA bonhomieadc@comcast.net The Department of Aging - office of Long Term Living awards Bon Homie with a grant At the end of September 2009 we submitted application for a grant from the Department of Aging to enhance our program. Our overall objective for this project was to create a formal quiet area that would be designed to offer a calm and peaceful setting to our clients. When families are looking at our program, they often ask if there are programs specifically tailored for those with dementia or if there is an area within the center where there loved one can find a quiet area to relax. We have found by utilizing equipment from the Snoezelen environment we will be able to create a sensory room that will benefit everyone that uses it. Snoezelen began in the Netherlands during the late 1970 s as a method of working with developmentally disabled children. It is now being used in retirement communities and nursing homes for adults that have been diagnosed with dementia related illnesses. All of our clients will be introduced to this program and have the opportunity to utilize the room. This environment will be set up to stimulate their senses of sight, sound, smell and touch using soft rockers, fiber optics, large bubble tubes, aromatherapy, soft smoothing sounds and a projector with nature images. Experience has shown improvement in client physical health, mood, attention, memory and a decrease in restlessness and wandering. It has also shown Alzheimer s and dementia clients benefit from this environment as well as those that are withdrawn and respond to the calming affects of the room. If you would like to learn more about the Snoezelen program use the following link to access the site: QUARTERLY INSIDE THIS ISSUE April - May 2010 Grant Award 1 Spring Ford Art Club 2 An Employee s Promotion 3 Activity Director receives certification 3 The King of Rock and Roll 4 Announcements 4 Birthdays 5 Tina and Nicole will have the opportunity to explore there senses in this environment. Kathy will be responsible for overseeing the flow of the program during the day. She will make certain our program activities get started on time, that clients are in the proper program areas and are given the opportunity and support they need to participate. Kathy is also responsible for training new staff members. Thank you Kathy for all your hard word and dedication. Our Sp Congratulations go out to JJ!!! Last month JJ received Professional certification from the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals. This program prepares activity professionals for the integral role of promoting quality of life in Day Center programs as well as for short and long-term care residents. Activity professionals are taught throughout the course; the skills necessary for developing a program of activities to meet the interests of each resident as well as the physical, mental and psychosocial well being of each resident. Way to go JJ. Activity Professional s are extraordinary. JJ at work.

We have received about half back but will not be able to submit for reimbursement if the rest of the applications aren t returned. If you have not returned your forms yet we really encourage you to do so. The money that we recover helps defray expenses that can get passed on to the consumer. If you need another copy, contact us at (610) Lost and Found We are looking for a tan knitted scarf with some burgundy and pink color in it. If you picked it up by mistake please return it to the center, a family is looking for it. There is a basket in the entry way full of hats, gloves, scarves and other items that have been found in the center. If you are missing any items that may fall into any of these categories please stop and take a look in the basket. This basket will remain in the entryway if you are ever looking for lost items.
