Please inform us if you have address changes, etc. Hey, hey Pat, I got emotional a bit when I saw the picture of the USS KETTLEMAN HILLS along with my article in the Happy Hands Deaf Seniors publication (June 2014 issue). It is a very good picture and I surely love that ship still! It s amazing the way you were able to dig up this picture so long after the ship s launching. You re doing excellent work as editor. These tankers were imposing! In these days a lot of the young men doing shipyard work wore durable Levis jackets and jeans that were hard to get in stores. They sold well for shipyard work. Those Levi jeans cost $1.25 in those days. After the stores stocked them up the jeans sold fast. In my youth I used to wear Waist size 32 and Length size 30 which seemed to be the average size jeans. Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco has been manufacturing jeans since about 1860: Shipyard work was rough work pretty much of the time so the jeans wore out fast. Today s Levis jeans denim isn t as good as the old days. In my squad at the shipyard in Sausalito (California) there were four of us young boys/men wearing Levis jackets and jeans at the same time. We had a good time working together. We were happy to have helped with the victory across the seas. Ken Shaffer
