1 Wellness Clinic FA18 Group Exercise Instructors & Classes Ananda Yoga with Peony: Ananda Yoga is a full body workout that not only promotes strength and flexibility, but also helps to dynamically ease the body and mind into a state of relaxation. Classes begin with a moment of quiet centering before moving into mindful breathing and warm-ups. Yoga postures that stabilize, strengthen, and stretch the body are paired with positive affirmations for a complete practice of body, mind, and spirit. Each class closes with a period of deep relaxation as well as a short meditation. These well-rounded yoga sequences offer yoga fundamentals for beginners as well as poses that will challenge yogis with more experience. You will gain more body awareness as well as leave the class feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Meet Peony: Born in Hong Kong, I grew up in Ananda Village, an intentional spiritual community in Nevada City, California. This was where I first learned yoga and meditation. At the age of thirteen, I took my first yoga class. During my first few classes, I sometimes wondered if I really liked it, but after going regularly for a few weeks I began looking forward to each class. I loved that yoga encouraged me to be completely focused, challenged my body and my mind, and eased me into a state of relaxation and calmness. Shortly after becoming certified at the age of fifteen, I began teaching at my local school to children and then went on to teach in a high school, university, and at the Expanding Light Yoga and Meditation Retreat Center. I have always had a passion for healing and helping others, so I began an extensive yoga therapy training program. Working with people therapeutically inspired me to learn more about the body, and thus to come to Ithaca College to study physical therapy. Since I have been in Ithaca, I have instructed groups at the IC Fitness Center, led the IC Yoga Club, as well as taught meditation. I hope to be able to use my yoga and physical therapy training to help myself and others attain health and wellness.

2 Bootcamp with Victoria: Boot camp offers a mix of traditional calisthenic and bodyweight exercises with strength training and interval training. During this total body workout, you can expect to build up your speed, power, strength, and agility with exercises like sprints and everyone's favorite...burpees! This class will aim to push you harder than you would push yourself to ensure you get in an effective and challenging workout. All fitness levels are welcome! Butt & Gut with Victoria: This butt-kicking, gut-wrenching class will get your heart rate up and get you sweating by using a variety of cardio and strength exercises to target and tone muscles in your legs, thighs, butt, and abs. This class is for all levels, whether you are a beginner or just looking for a fun group workout. Let s Row! with Victoria: Looking for a low impact cardio workout that is fun and will get your heart rate up? Look no further! This class will focus on proper rowing form, while increasing both cardiovascular and muscular endurance through workouts on the rowing ergometer mixed with some strength exercises and core. No rowing experience necessary and all fitness levels are welcome! Meet Victoria: Victoria is an ACSM certified personal trainer and has been teaching fitness classes at IC s Fitness Center as well as at her home gym since Victoria is currently a senior, majoring in Exercise Science and Clinical Health Studies/Physical Therapy. This semester, she will be teaching Butt & Gut and Let s Row! at the clinic. Victoria s love for fitness started her junior year of high school, when she discovered her home gym and mud runs. Her gym offered a variety of fun and challenging group classes taught by caring and motivating trainers. These trainers inspired her to go out and get certified the summer of 2014, right before her freshman year at IC. Going away to college, Victoria was looking for something to help keep her motivated and accountable for regularly working out. She found this on the Ithaca College Varsity Women s Crew team, which (thankfully!) required no prior rowing experience. She fell in love with the sport, and this will be her fourth and final year on the team. Victoria is very excited to share her love for fitness here at the clinic by creating fun and effective workouts that everyone can benefit from, regardless of their fitness level.

3 Boxing with George: Looking for a new and engaging workout? Look no further! Boxing is a great way to relieve stress and build confidence, while challenging your body. This class caters to participants who want to learn boxing technique and get a taste of what it s like to be fighting fit, through boxing specific conditioning, including HIIT circuits and drills. Meet George: George is a graduate student from Australia at Ithaca College pursuing a Masters degree in Sport Science: Exercise Physiology. He completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Nutrition and minor in Human Movement in 2008, and a Master of Teaching degree in 2010, both at the University of South Australia. George taught high school biology and physical education for six years, in addition to his most recent role as Assistant Principal. George s passion for training, and in particular boxing, began at an early age and he has both competed and coached in the amateur league for the last five years. George has participated in numerous state and national training camps at the Australian Institute of Sport. George has extensive experience managing a training facility back in Australia where he conducted group and individual boxing classes, as well as strength and conditioning training. Outside of boxing George enjoys hiking with his dog Luna, kayaking and surfing.

4 Cycling with Carson: Come bike along in this guided group exercise session, set to lively, motivating music. You will ride along with the beat and complete a series of drills including riding up hills, sprinting, interval cycling, and more! No prior cycling experience necessary, and all levels of fitness are welcome! Come have fun while increasing your strength and endurance and burning calories! Yoga with Carson: Meet Carson on the mat for a yoga class that will not only improve your strength and flexibility, but will allow you to take a step away from the rest of the world, de-stress, and focus your intentions on being present in the moment and listening to your own body. This class is tailored to each individual body, incorporating therapeutic postural alignment techniques to allow you to move and bring space to your body in the way it most needs it, while still challenging your body to move deeply with muscle engagement throughout each pose. Carson has been trained to teach a variety of styles of yoga, and class may vary week to week from powerful vinyasa flow sequences to relaxing yin & restorative practice, but you will always walk away from this class with a lightness to carry with you for the rest of your day. Meet Carson: Carson is a sixth year Physical Therapy student, American College of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer, cycling instructor, and certified yoga teacher. She has been teaching cycling classes for the past two years at the IC Fitness Center, where she is also a personal trainer and enjoys incorporating cardiovascular training, strengthening exercises, high intensity interval training, and stretching to coach clients through comprehensive, total body fitness programs. After practicing yoga for about five years, Carson recently completed her Yoga Teacher training with a therapeutic emphasis from Soma Yoga Institute in Costa Rica, and is excited to begin sharing her love of yoga as an instructor here at the Wellness Clinic. Carson loves yoga for the sources of grounding that it offers, and how it allows her to be more mindful and in-tune with herself and the world around her, and loves to incorporate the healing effects of yoga into her physical therapist practice to encourage the wellness of the body, mind, and spirit of her patients. Carson caught a travel bug ever since spending a semester studying abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France, and another semester abroad in Gold Coast, Australia, and travels at every chance that she gets. In her spare time, she enjoys being active outdoors hiking, biking, running, kayaking, skiing, surfing - you name it!

5 HIIT with Matt: HIIT or High-Intensity Interval Training is a fitness programming technique utilizing short, intense bouts of work, followed by brief, and sometimes active, recovery periods. HIIT is a great way to maximize your time and results in the gym and is guaranteed to make you sweat! Experienced exercisers are encouraged to work at, or near maximal effort, while beginners are coached on quality of movements before advancing to higher intensities. HIIT classes will focus on constantly varied functional movements that target the body utilizing: balance, agility, speed, power, strength, endurance, and mindset. HIIT classes have been shown to improve: aerobic and anaerobic fitness capacity, blood pressure, cardiovascular health, insulin sensitivity, cholesterol profiles, body composition, sleep quality, vigor, and stress levels. Meet Matt: Matt is no stranger to health, wellness, and fitness. He has always made the effort to be active his whole life through organized sports, such as soccer and track, and recreational sports and activities like running, biking, hiking, resistance training, and many other modalities of fitness. Matt always aims to challenge himself intellectually and physically, and naturally took his passion of health and fitness to higher education where he graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelors of Science in Clinical Exercise Science. He s back at IC to further his education as he pursues his Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology. Matt is a Certified Exercise Physiologist and Certified Personal Trainer, earning his accreditations through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI), respectively. Matt s health and wellness endeavors have provided him with robust experiences including cardiac rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, outpatient physical therapy, personal training, and boot camp-style HIIT group training. These experiences, along with the principle mindset of quality of movement trumps quantity of movement, sets him apart as an exercise professional. Rest assured you re in good hands when training with Matt.

6 Running with Jules: A varied weekly running workout such as intervals, tempo runs, and hills that will accommodate all fitness levels! Includes dynamic warm-up and post-workout mobility exercises. Jules is more than happy to give outside training tips. Beginners welcome! Each class will meet at the Wellness Clinic and running location will be determined from there. If weather permits, class will likely be held on the outdoor track, which allows for greater interaction between participants and our instructor, Jules, while still taking advantage of being outside. In inclement weather, class may be held in the Wellness Clinic or the group may head down quickly to the A&E Center Indoor Track! Meet Jules: Jules is a junior Clinical Exercise Science & Wellness major from Raymond, Maine. She is a member of Ithaca College s Women s Cross Country and Track & Field teams. Jules has been running since elementary school, and has competed in cross country, Nordic skiing, and track & field all through middle school and high school. She loves running for its simplicity, the way it has nourished her relationship with her mind and body, and for the friendships and incredible sense of team and family that it has provided her with. She believes the best thing about running is that your own feet can truly take you anywhere: literally, physically, mentally, spiritually and socially. In her free time, Jules prefers any sort of outdoor activity, particularly hiking, biking, skiing and sailing. You can also find her avidly trying to find the best gluten-free brownie recipe. She hopes to pursue more coaching experiences post-college and is interested in entering the nursing field.

7 Zumba with Cynthia: Zumba is a Latin dance-based fitness program designed to burn calories while having a ton of fun. This class uses a variety of heart-pumping rhythms, from Latin and international music, pop, and even some hip hop. Zumba is a full-body workout! High intensity and low intensity intervals will give you a great cardio workout, and the easy-tofollow dance moves will target your conditioning, flexibility, balance, and coordination. Our goal is to leave the stress of the day behind, lose ourselves in the music, and dance like no one is watching. Ditch the workout, join the party! Meet Cynthia: Hi, I m Cynthia Henderson (an AFAA and CPR/AED certified, licensed International Zumba Fitness Instructor) and I love teaching Zumba classes. The reason is simple: Every class feels like a party! Come join me and you'll see what I mean. I've been performing as an actress in NYC and around the world for many years! Now I've added ZUMBA Fitness to the work I love to do! As a professor of acting at Ithaca College, a director and actor my work has taken me all over the world! During my travels I've encountered many of the dance styles we do within ZUMBA! I try to maintain the authenticity of the dance styles while amping up the fitness! 8 Zumba with Melissa: Zumba is dance cardio to latin and pop music to help strengthen muscles, improve mobility, and increase cardiovascular endurance. The instructor will show you easy to follow choreography to get a great, high energy, fun workout for 45 minutes straight! Meet Melissa: Melissa is a 6th year graduate DPT student here at IC. She has been involved with fitness and athletics since a very young age. At Ithaca College she was a cheerleader for 2 years and danced for IC Unbound Dance Company for 3 years. She is currently a personal trainer, Zumba instructor, and HIIT instructor at the IC Fitness Center. Her passions (outside of school and fitness) are music, hiking, and advocating for mental health across all populations. She also has her own fitness blog/instagram/youtube, melissapatnellafitness.wordpress.com. Her main philosophy and strategy on getting through life is with a smile, and looking to put a positive understanding on anything that life hands her. Melissa has completed her Zumba certification and is incredibly excited to be now teaching in the Wellness Clinic!
