1 Newcomers News October 2017 Monthly Luncheon: 11 AM on Thursday, October 12 th at the Bluegrass Country Club EdieHand sharing the art of living Edie Hand is a businesswoman, speaker, media personality, filmmaker, international author, and mom. She has authored, coauthored, or assisted in the development of more than 20 books. Her personal titles include inspirational books, cookbooks and novellas. The business world knows Edie for her many acts of kindness and as a lady that knows how to pay life forward. Photo by Edie has starred in national commercials, daytime television soaps, and has hosted numerous radio and television shows nationwide. She has been the CEO of Hand N Hand Advertising, Inc. since 1976 while actively involved in the Alliance for Women in Media (known as American Women in Radio & Television) for more than 40 years. Additionally, Edie is a long standing member of the Alabama Broadcasters Association, a member of the Nashville Women in Film & Television, and is an Ambassador for the Hollywood Film Festival. She is the founder of The Genuine Pearl Girl Society that helps to encourage acts of kindness within ones community. She also founded the Edie Hand Foundation, which helps to benefit The Children's Hospital of Alabama, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, and assists with education and supplies for orphans in Asia through the Ramini Kids Foundation. She is a veteran in developing radio, television, and film projects. Edie s family heritage is rich in song writing, acting, and music from the Hood-Hacker Presley family and her legendary cousin, Elvis Presley. Edie is assisting her son, Linc Hand, on various film and music projects through their Hand 'N Hand Entertainment Corporation. Edie is an alumnus of the University of North Alabama, and her son, Linc Hand, lives in Hollywood, California, while she maintains offices in Nashville, TN and Birmingham, AL. She can be seen in more than 14 million homes every Sunday on the RFD-TV/Net/Rural TV show Rx for Healthy Lifestyles. 2 A Message from the President Happy Fall! We are hard at work on our Fifth Annual Garlands & Glitter Fashion Show: Stylish Southern Glamour for Your Holidays. The festivities begin at 6 pm on the evening of Friday, November 3rd at the Bluegrass Country Club! Dillard s is poised to showcase the best of holiday fashions for men, women and children, and early bird shopping will be available starting at 5PM. We will have a couple of Newcomers members modeling, along with local celebrities such as Holly Thompson of WSMV Chanel 4, State Rep. Courtney Rogers, and the reigning Miss Tennessee. We are also thrilled to have once again Emmy Award Winner Lelan Statom of WTVF News Channel 5 as our emcee for this exciting evening! Since this is the fifth anniversary of Garlands & Glitter, we are working to make this bigger and the best ever. We have some top notch entertainment lined up to delight you before and after the fashion show. Sumner Teen Center will be our benefiting charity for this exciting event, and I hope I can count on all Newcomers members to help us make this a success. The evening will be a great date night as well as a fun girl s night out. Sumner Teen Center is an impressive organization and served so many deserving teens in Sumner County, in so many different ways. Tickets are on sale now. Charity of the Month: Edie Hand Foundation, Sumiton, AL Cheryl Sherwood In an effort to pay it forward and leave a legacy for community involvements, Edie founded the Edie Hand Foundation after the loss of her three young brothers and her own three battles with cancer. The main goal is to give back to the community and to encourage acts of kindness and generosity all around her. Door prizes are a fun part of our Luncheons like Christmas all year long! So please consider bringing a gift to pass along and watch the smiles and excitement build around the room as winners are called and door prizes awarded! 6 The French Lick Chapter of the Tennessee Society of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host the Rededication of the DAR Marker in honor of American Revolutionary War Soldier Henry Bradford, , at the Willis-Bradford Cemetery, 250 Main Street, Hendersonville, TN, October 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The 5 th Annual Garlands & Glitter Fashion Show, Stylish Southern Glamour, Shopping and Entertainment, will be held Friday, November 3 rd from 6 to 10:30 pm at Bluegrass Country Club in Hendersonville.
