FACETOFACEBOOK is a new workshop designed by LOVEFORLIFE to provide parents and carers with basic practical tips on keeping young people (and themselves!) safe as they enjoy the benefits of advances in internet technology. Current trends will be highlighted and advice given on how to prevent things from going wrong online. The programme will highlight the advantages and potential pitfalls of internet technology, and equip parents and carers to help their children protect themselves as they explore the online world. This is a shortened version of the one day Review, Relax Renew Training Programme. It is an introduction to Stress Management and Relaxation Techniques and aims to provide participants with the knowledge, skills and tools to manage the adverse effects of pressure experienced in everyday life. 6 P.A.U.S.E Workshop Date: Friday, 7 th June places per locality Time: 9:30 am - 5:00 pm Venue: Armagh Teachers Centre, Newry Road, Armagh (Just at the 30/40 M.P.H. sign) Tel: Are you caring for young people whose behaviour you find challenging? Would you like to learn new ways to manage such behaviours? This workshop explores the practical mechanics of preventative Behaviour Management, Reflective Practice, Self-Awareness and Child-Centred communication. The P.A.U.S.E. acronym gives participants a very effective tool to use to minimise challenging behaviour as well as help prevent incidents escalating. It focuses on practical ways to prevent and minimize challenging behaviour at the onset. P.A.U.S.E. is practice-based and founded on extensive experience working directly with young people placed in Care and Juvenile Justice Programmes because of behavioural and emotional problems. 7 Kinship Carers Discussion Group Date: Wednesday, 12 th June places per locality Time: 10:30 am - 1:00 pm Venue: Armagh Teachers Centre, Newry Road, Armagh Tel: Facilitator/s: Kate Cahill, Foster Carer and Gemma Stokes, Senior Practitioner, Foster Care Training Objectives: Kinship Carers may not always view themselves as being Foster Carers and often underestimate the value of their role. The purpose of this session is to provide a forum where they may share important issues and get help and direction as to how best these issues may be resolved. 8 Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training Two day course - both days must be attended 6 places Dates: Tuesday, 20 th November / Wednesday, 21 st November 2013 Time: 9.30 a.m p.m. Venue: Beeches Education Centre, Craigavon Area Hospital (On leaving hospital roundabout going towards the hospital, take the first right and then right again and the Beeches is on right at the bottom of the hill. (College of Nursing). There are signs on the right) Most people considering suicide signal their distress and their intent. Training can help us see and respond to these invitations to help. It can provide the confidence to ask about suicide if we are concerned about someone s safety. It can provide us with the tools to help prevent the immediate risk of suicide. The interactive programme includes teaching, discussion, video and skills practice.

9 Farm Safety 2 places per locality Date: Date: Time: Venue: Tuesday, 16 th October Foster Carers Tuesday, 23 rd October Social Workers 10:30 am - 3:00 pm Seminar Room 1, Fulton Hall, Greenmount College, Antrim (2-3 miles on airport side of Antrim) Tel: Facilitator/s: Malcolm Downey, Brian Pryce and John Spiers Health and Safety Executive NI Objectives: This is an opportunity for foster carers and social workers to learn about Farm Safety in a controlled setting. It will provide those carers living on farms with greater insight into the potential dangers for children and young people. Foster carers and staff will have the opportunity to explore a farm using our health and safety checklist and ask questions about what is involved in an HSE farm inspection.
