3 Our Programs: Youth Development Educational Resource Center Disaster Relief Medical and Surgical Treatment Youth Development: The Youth Development is helping young people to achieve their full potential. We at The House of Charity promote Youth Development which gives youth the chance to exercise leadership, build skills, and get involved. The self-confidence, trust, and practical knowledge that young people gain from these opportunities help them grow into healthy, happy, self-sufficient adults. This also prevent them from engaging in risky behaviors Educational Resource Center: We believe that every child deserves school supplies and all teachers should have the tools to provide exceptional learning to all students regardless of economic background. Before After The Educational Resource Center was set up with focus on providing students in high poverty schools the same tools to learn as those in more affluent schools. This program has developed a system of recycling used and surplus office supplies which also enhances environmental consciousness in the community of Houston. Disaster Relief: The House of Charity collaborates with youth volunteers and provides toys, groceries, clothing, household items, and school supplies to underserved communities. Annually The House of Charity organizes Humanitarian Day providing meals, hygiene packs, toys, carnival, clothes, blankets and more to homeless and underserved community in Houston and surrounding areas. The House of Charity has provided aid to evacuees of Hurricane Katrina disaster, and Hurricane Ike disaster in Gulf Coast. Creating World of Smiles Medical & Surgical Treatment: The House of Charity provides high quality medical and surgical treatment to children and youth. These innocent victims are suffering to live a life with their deformity. Houston hospitals and clinics are working collaboratively to make this objective a reality. The House of Charity is working to fill that need through: Surgical & Medical Care for Children and Youth provides high quality donated medical and surgical treatment to children and youth without healthcare. Collaborating with clinic, local hospitals, doctors and nurses.

4 What is Youth Development? The House of Charity is building leaders for tomorrow by creating strong opportunities for and building relationships with its youth volunteers. The House of Charity provides safe opportunity for youth of our community. The House of Charity give youth the chance to exercise leadership, build skills to achieve their full potential through safe volunteering. The self-confidence, trust, and practical knowledge that young people gain from these opportunities help them grow into healthy, happy, self-sufficient adults. The House of Charity put Youth Development into practice by allowing young people to help make important decisions about their own lives, and help build communities by: Providing volunteer opportunities. Showing youth how to start their own newspapers or Web sites Asking high school students to co-teach classes with their teachers Teaching young people to conduct surveys on community and school resources Encouraging local businesses to provide youth with internship opportunities. Inviting youth to serve on the board of a local nonprofit organization. Creating a youth board that advises State or local government on issues young people care about. I am a junior in high school looking to going into the medical field, particularly surgery. I am eager to partake in such a educational and rewarding opportunity at the House of Charity, said Priscila Cevallos President of MedClub at Westchester Academy for International Studies. The MedClub students of Westchester Academy located in Houston Texas are joining hands with The House of Charity to volunteer and learn how to reach out. MedClub is preparing a path for its student to a profession in medicine with building relationships with different organizations, awareness about sickness, the person, and the community who suffer as well..

Dear Mom & Dad, It s not easy being a kid. I know it s hard providing for the family, but I have to grow. Here is what we need to grow as a family: Food (to be big like you all) Clothes (a little fashion doesn t hurt) School supplies (to distract myself in class with) Computers ( so I don't watch too much TV) Furniture (so I can break it ) Love, Every Child The ERC has had several programs running since 1997: CPR training Water & Fire Safety workshops Clothing drives Furniture /material recycling Coats for charity Donate a back packs Assist a teacher Youth Camps Do You Know The Educational Resource Center has been giving businesses and community an outlet to recycle their unwanted supplies. Considering the 5% population growth every ten years, projections indicated that by 2012 the Educational Resource Center programs can divert tens of tons of materials from the landfills. The Educational Resource Center is also geared toward providing safe volunteer opportunities. We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities that range from organizing drives to administrative assistants. Needed supplies: Back packs Books Calculators Carpet squares Coloring pencils Markers, paints Computers Copy paper CD s Folders, binders of all kinds Clipboards Science supplies Glue sticks Highlighters Flash cards Safety scissors for kids Educational toys Maps Dry erase board New stuffed toys Paper clips Pencil box pencils, pens Projectors & supplies Playground equipment Printers Puzzlers Games Spiral notebooks Water bottles Giving a little TLC Adopt-A-School is a pilot program with the dream of helping in masses by launching donation collections in economically advantaged high schools and distributing to economically disadvantaged schools. With their help it is our goal to collect school uniforms, supplies, and coats and to disburse them to students who need such items. Young volunteers who are interested in administering such a program through a school organizations are encouraged to contact us.

6 Stepping The House of Charity is proud of providing services without regards to religious belief or cultural difference. The House of Charity has been a receipt of numerous prestigious awards and has been recognized in several local, national and international media outlets. One of our success stories Amin; This local boy came to House of Charity having being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He had already received extensive chemo and his parents, in a desperate attempt, asked us for help. After going through much screening, preparation for surgery, and prayers it was found that Amin s cancer had miraculously disappeared. After years of treatment at MD Anderson and final preparations for removal of his vocal chords, Amin witnessed a miracle and is looking forward to attending college We believe that; Volunteers don't get paid, Not because they're worthless, But because they're priceless. 7 Youth Development 1,990 HOURS PER MONTH Beginning an organization like House of Charity and running it was big dream that could only be make possible the hard work and the determination of many interested committed volunteers. These volunteers bring unique talents that are crucial to its success. We would like to extend our heart felt thanks to all volunteers who so generously donated their commitment, time and resources. 8 One Hundred years from now; It will not matter what kind of a car I drove, what kind of a house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like. But the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.
