1 Lamoille Woman s Club General Meeting Minutes 2/2/ Following the scheduled program, Seed Starting, presented by our own Jean Pici, the General Meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by President Martha Wallace. 2. The Salute to the Flag was made and the Collect for Club Women was recited. 3. Members were welcomed, and there were no guests. 4. Three Members were selected to review the minutes: Millie McCarley, Dixie Botsford, and Ann Patton. 5. The hostesses for the February luncheon of quiche, salad, mimosa cocktails, cookies and chocolate were thanked: Gay Metcalf, Lynn Kistler, Bonnie Muckel, Victoria Gravelin and Jayne Sowers. 6. February birthdays were recognized: Sue Ballew, Dixie Botsford, Martha Wallace, Diane Quenell and Barbara Morgan. Elisabeth Moore led us in singing Happy Birthday. 7. The Building and Grounds drawing winner was Elisabeth Moore. 8. Correspondence was read by President Martha Wallace. Two cards were received, a Thank You card from the Spring Creek Choir and another from Mrs. Gowing for the Christmas food basket. 9. The Treasurer s Report for February was read and filed by Treasurer Ruth Beecher: Beginning Balance: $13, Ending Balance: $9, Club Income was $80.00 from Membership dues and sale of 2 picnic tables Expenditures were $ for bank deposit slips, audit of club books, Clubhouse expenses, CIP, and Christmas necessities. Money Market Balance: $9, The President s Report was presented by President Martha Wallace. There s good news and bad news: Good News: Becky Kerna has agreed to be Acting Secretary until June We can t be incorporated without a Secretary. The names of officers had to be sent in, and Becky agreed to help us out. Bad News: Barbara Morgan resigned as Vice President. The nominating committee will be looking for someone to finish the term.

2 An anonymous person has donated a new stove for the Clubhouse. It will have two ovens! It will be delivered to Millie McCarley s garage within a week or two, and volunteers were requested to help with removal of the old stove and installation of the new one. We packed and sent a box to Sgt. Joe Marsh in Iraq. A big thank you to those who donated goodies and money for mailing. The Lamoille Woman s Club annual reports went to GFWC this week, with copies to our State Dean of Departments, Ginger Norton. We reported on *35* projects! The Mesquite Club in Las Vegas is celebrating its 100 th anniversary this year. They are having a Centennial Luncheon on February 11 th and a Centennial Gala at the Spanish Trails Club House on Saturday evening, the 26 th. Ruth Baty will attend both functions, and Elisabeth Moore and Jane Stevens plan to go to the Centennial Luncheon. On April 16 th, the State will hold its annual convention in Las Vegas. We d like as many of our members to attend as possible; we have funds left in our conference money to help defray the expense of going to the convention. The amount of available funds will be reported at the next meeting. The 2012 State Convention will be held in Elko, so we will be looking for several Volunteers to form a Convention Committee. 11 The State President s Report was given by President Ruth Baty: Prevent Child Abuse America, one of our partner organizations, received books from Kappa Delta Sorority. Titled Rosie s New Shoes, these books are about bullying and young children. GFWC-NV has received 300 books, and Lamoille Woman s Club needs to fill out an application to receive its fair share for the local community. We are urged to attach a small teddy bear to each of the books, and to deliver them either in March, Literacy Month, or April, Child Abuse Prevention Month. Ruth Baty said she believes the final submission date for the photography contest is March15th, but entrants should probably submit by March 10 th to ensure submissions are in time. 12 The Vice President s Report was read by Martha Wallace: Make Mondays Matter drawing was won by Diane Quenell, who smiled at a cute stranger. A certificate was also given to Myrna Hecht for last month s drawing. Programs were announced for March and April. The members asked if Jean Pici would continue part two of her gardening tutorial for March. Jean agreed.

3 Ruth Baty said she would like to show a video on GFWC and tell the members about GFWC programs at the April meeting. 13 The Fair Report was given by Ruth Beecher: The Committee has sent out 245 applications for the 36 th Annual Country Fair with another 20 to be sent via . The application is also available on the website, and Dixie Botsford has uploaded a 50-picture slide show of last year s event. Joyce Kay has completed the quilt top for the raffle. The name of the pattern is Pink Lemonade and the membership voted to name the quilt the same. 14. Membership updates were given by Jean Pici: Corrections were made to the Membership roster and will appear in the March newsletter. Future additions and corrections will also appear in subsequent newsletters. It was suggested the Lamoille Woman s Club keep information regarding by-laws, committee chairs, hostess information, etc., on our website. A copy could also be kept at the Clubhouse for perusal. Dixie Botsford gave us the username and password information to access the members only section of the website. President Martha Wallace said the Board would meet and consider what will be done about the membership books. Consideration needs to be given to those without computers and those who can not access the Website. Elisabeth Moore wants the Club by-laws to be given to each new member. This also will be discussed at the Board meeting. The Membership Committee plans included two events: Girls Night Out Wine and Cheese Party held last September and a Green Party. The Green Party is on target for Spring; more information will be forthcoming. is A State Membership grant application for $300 has been received, and Jean Pici working on it now. The grant application is due February 11, An update to the Community Improvement Project was given by Joyce Kay: 28 th. A lift chair donated to the club by Dr. Marvin Conley on behalf of his mother, Honorary member Violet Conley, was delivered to BrightPath on Friday, January

4 BrightPath has a desperate need for new computer systems, including both a tower and a laptop. 16. Under Domestic Violence Awareness, Linda Maclaren noted that donations to both Harbor House and BrightPath need to be clearly separated so that there s no confusion. 17. Diane Quenell reported that last year s tree, wreath, and advent calendar made $200 for the Festival of Trees charity event. We plan to do another tree, advent calendar, and wreath for 2011; the theme will be Victorian in blue and silver tones and all members are invited to participate. An egg-decorating class for anyone interested will be given by Jean Pici. Members may also help by donating $5 to cover the cost of decorating 1 egg for the tree. 18, Under Ways and Means, President Martha Wallace asked if members wanted to put on a Spaghetti feed at the Clubhouse. Diane Quenell suggested everyone donate money in lieu of the spaghetti feed. Elisabeth Moore suggested we do something for the local community to thank them for their cooperation during our Country Fair. Ann Patton suggested a free dinner. Millie McCarley suggested a spaghetti feed for a fee of $5 and invite all in the area. A show-of-hands vote was taken, and it was decided to have a Spaghetti Feed in April Victoria Gravelin volunteered to be the coordinator for the event, and a paper was circulated for volunteer sign-up. April 9 th or 30 th were suggested as dates, with April 30 th being the winner. This is the same date as one of Jean Pici s gardening classes, so it was agreed volunteers could work in shifts so they could participate in both events if desired. Please note that a March spaghetti feed in Elko is a benefit for Mark Porter, who was troop leader for the Boy Scouts who help each year at the Country Fair. Ruth Baty encouraged us to attend in support of Mark. Under old business, Jane Stevens reported that we received more watches for the GFWC Mural Project. So far, she s collected 42 watches. 20, Luncheon Hostesses for the next General Meeting will be Andrea Davis (lead hostess), Debbie Wherry, Fran Hopkins, Alita Fausett, and Ruth Beecher. Victoria has offered to stand in for Alita, if she is unavailable.. March 2 nd is the date of the next General Meeting.
