1 Montana Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation Foundation Newsletter Fall 2015 Gun Raffle The Foundation has initiated a gun raffle fundraiser for this fall. A combination of 30 different handguns, shotguns and rifles will be included in the raffle. Guns will be provided by Shedhorn Sports of Ennis. The drawing, for all guns, will be held on December 15. Only 1000 tickets will be sold with the price of tickets set at $40.00 each or 3 for $ As with past Foundation raffles 25% of ticket sales by Lions Clubs will be returned to the clubs if the clubs choose to accept the rebate. As a raffle bonus, all 30 winning tickets will be entered into a special drawing. The holder of the winning ticket will receive 500 rounds of ammo. Tickets are being sold by all Foundation trustees. A list of trustees follows this article. There have been 43 hearing aid applications, 4 cataract surgeries, 1 macular scaring, 1 YAG Capsulotomy, 1 Coats Disease, 1 vision equipment. Applications have been received from: Helena, Bozeman, Columbia Falls, Missoula, Great Falls, Billings, Ennis, Hot Springs, Lolo, Hamilton, Lewistown, Stevensville, Ramsay, Anaconda, Eureka, Laurel, Warm Springs, East Helena, Darby, Boulder, Frenchtown, Bigfork, Black Eagle, Kalispell. Thanks for Your Financial Support During the fourth quarter (April-June) Lions Clubs and Lions contributed $16, to the Foundation (mints, $345.56; white cane, $ license plate sales, $ ; memorials, $ ; general donations, $ ; assistance applications donations, $ ; cash raffle, $ ). Almost every club in the State supported the Foundation through participation in at least one of the Foundation s fundraising activities. During the fourth quarter the Foundation made payments of approximately $27, which included payments for; white cane supplies, $184.50; individual assistance payments, $ ; administrators contract, $ ; raffle rebates, ; raffle winner payments, Amazon Smile The Foundation has made arrangements to participate in the Amazon Smile Program. The program allows a small portion of purchases made through Amazon to be paid to the Foundation. Shoppers can use the same account for Amazon Smile and Amazon. Go to smile.amazon.com and select the Montana Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. Every time you make a purchase using Amazon Smile a portion of your purchase will be automatically sent to the Foundation. For more details go to Highlights of July 18, 2015 Trustee Meeting The quarterly trustee meeting was held on Saturday, July 18 at the home of PID Dave and Lion Marie Hajny in Ennis. Financial Report - As of June 30, 2015 the account balances were as follows: checking account, $3,123.25; certificates of deposits, $109,597.23; status report; the income, expense and budget summaries; expense report, income report and petty cash reports were presented. Bozeman Low Vision Center Representatives of the center, Ken McCullough and Joscelyn DeHaas gave a report on the activities of the center. Issues discussed included: purpose of the center, available equipment, outreach efforts, coordination between organizations, public, centers status as a 501 (3) organization, contact information and access to the center s newsletter. License Plate Sales Montana Lions are encouraged to purchase a Foundation License Plate. Plates can be acquired at any time of the year by simply going to your local court house and requesting a license plate. Twenty dollars ($20.00) from your cost is sent to the Foundation each month. This is a great way to show your support for the Foundation and Lionism and provide financial support to the Foundation. Gun Raffle There was extensive discussion on how to proceed with a gun raffle. PID Dave Hajny presented a plan for the raffle. Guns would be provided by Shedhorn Sports in Ennis, MT. Thirty assorted guns (hand/rifles) will be offered as part of the raffle; drawing, for all guns, will be held on December 15; tickets, $40.00 each or 3 for $100.00; only 1000 tickets will be sold; 25% rebate to clubs (optional); grand prize,

3 500 rounds of ammo; the administrator and PID Dave Hajny will work on ticket design; appropriate information will be posted on the Foundation s website; trustees will be responsible for taking the lead in selling raffle tickets. Motion by PDG Monte Weisser, second by PID Tom Lehman to approve the gun raffle. Passed. District 37 Convention The convention will be held on October 9 and 10 in Helena at the Colonial Inn. A Foundation representative(s) will make an informational presentation. Attempts will be made to find an individual to make a testimonial presentation on behalf of the Foundation. A convention registration form is included with the newsletter. Parade of Green A parade of green will be held on Saturday, at breakfast, at approximately 7:25 AM. The event provides an opportunity for clubs to be recognized for their support of district projects and also provides recognition for those projects. Clubs can present donations during the program but no dollar amounts were be announced to those attending the program. Note: The parade of green information was not part of the trustee meeting but is included as an a convention event. MONTANA = DISTRICT 37 As of July 1, 2015 Montana is a stand-alone Lions district. Districts 37S and 37N have been combined and there are approximately 1750 Lions in the new district. The new district governor is DG Richard Gessling (gesslingdds@gmail.com), Red Lodge and the 1 st vice district governor is VDG Jayne Pfeifer (pinkogeez@gmail.com) Bozeman. Numerous Lions throughout the State have worked for several years to bring about the change and the separation from Canada. For more information regarding the new district visit the excellent website at: Assistance Applications Trustees gave consideration to 6 assistance applications: 4 hearing aids, 1 vision equipment, 1 coats disease. One application for a hearing aid was denied all other applications were approved. VDG Jayne Pfeifer and PDG Lary Garrison were added to the Foundation s board of directors. Used Eye Glass Processing PCC John Mathis and Lion Charles Schabel (Electric City Lions) are coordinating efforts to collect and ship used eye glasses. The Northwest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center will take all eyeglass related items except loose lenses, dirty soft cases and hard cases. If you plan on taking glasses to Great Falls please contact PCC John Mathis ( th Avenue SW, ) or Lion Charles Schabel (4204 Clark Avenue, ) to make arrangements for your delivery. MEMORIALS OR HONORARIUM Remember a loved one or honor that special person by donating to the Foundation. What better way to remember or honor someone than having your donation live in perpetuity? Your Memorial or Honorarium donation is never spent; only the interest earned on these assets will be used to further the purpose of the Foundation. Recent Memorials have been received in memory of: Maury Guay, Pat Dettinger, Angela Stillwagon, Dave Armstrong, Mrs. Paul Webb, and Clara Kopitzke. LIFE MEMBERSHIPS A Life Membership to the Foundation, which includes a lapel pin and packet card can be bestowed by an individual, group of individuals, Lions Club or can be purchased by an individual with a donation of one hundred dollars. The most recent recipients of Life Memberships include: PDG Monte Weisser (Kalispell Sunrisers; PDG Laura Dickerson (Kalispell Sunrisers); Lion Judy Garrison, (Billings Heights), PIP Judge Brian Stevenson (Missoula South Side), Lyrae Becker (Missoula), Verna Love- Cragwick (Butte Mile Hi).

4 FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS Foundation Fellowships can now be purchased by individuals. Foundation Fellowships are used to recognize outstanding Lions and other deserving individuals. The Board of Trustees of the Foundation endorses this Fellowship. The Fellowship award includes a lapel pin, a mounted certificate and acknowledgement on a permanent record board. Fellowships can be acquired for a donation of two hundred and fifty dollars. The most recent recipients of the fellowship are: Andrea Johnson and Angela Wintrow (Broadwater County), Teresa and Jessica Falcon (Kalispell Sunrisers), Thomas Flaherty (Red Lodge), Brenda Ludwig (Broadwater County). PID DAVE HAJNY, PID TOM LEHMAN AND PID GARY TSCHACHE FELLOWSHIPS The PID Dave Hajny, PID Tom Lehman and PID Gary Tschache Fellowships are available. The fellowships recognize the contributions to Lionism made by PID Dave, PID Tom and PID Gary. The fellowships are a great way to provide recognition for deserving Lions. Fellowships can be purchased for $ A permanent record board has been created to give special recognition to all those that receive this fellowship. The most recent recipients of PID Tom Lehman Fellowship are: Andy Black (Billings Heights), Leona Gibson and Wayne Gibson (Bozeman Sourdough), Rick Robson (Canada). The most recent recipients of the PID Gary Tschache Fellowship are: Alex Hudak (Gallatin Empire) Jessica Falcon (Kalispell Sunrisers), Ken Sciuchetti (Ennis) and Sarah Barutha (Bozeman Sweet Pea), Paddy Gwin (Billings Heights). October Meeting - The next trustee meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM. The meeting will be held at the Valley Bank in Helena. All Lions and guests are always welcome to attend the meeting.
