It is understood that it is summer and attendance is down but what can we do to make it a worthwhile reason to attend? Last year we had programs at a majority of our meetings. They were informative but were they well received? What do you the members want to see? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Do you have any ideas for small one day fund raisers or service projects? It was suggested that we may want to take one day a month and go to St. Francis House to help with sorting or anything else they needed. This is a possibility. Other things that could be done are things like sorting glasses a LERC once or twice a year. These are almost zero impact projects that cost us nothing to do but make a large impact on our community at large. Another thing would be to maybe plant some trees in a park with permission from the city to help the environment. Other ideas is to work with the local high schools or Junior High Schools and have them collect used eye glasses or hearing aides for us to turn into LERC and they can use it for community service and we can help our causes. Who knows we might be able to gain new members while doing this. Any new ideas is greatly appreciated and welcome. Please forward them to Puyallup,lions@gmail.com or mail them to P.O. Box 1101, Puyallup WA

3 International Corner The Centennial Service Challenge The challenge is to serve 100 million people before June of 2018 in celebration of the first 100 years of service that the Lions have accomplished. Well to date with approximately 59% of the clubs worldwide participating in the challenge 90,045,786 people have been helped in the four categories of service so far. The four categories are as follows: Engaging our Youth: Support the youth in your community, or inspire the next generation of volunteers by inviting local youth to serve on a project with you. Sharing the Vision: Vision screening, Educational Events etc. Relieving Hunger: Improve access to healthy food for the vulnerable in your community Protecting the Environment: Protect and improve the environment to make your community a healthier place to live for everyone. Project Spotlight The Fun Ride is replacing our Poker Run this year. This is the first year will be holding the event. It is a scenic ride from the city to the ocean to the foothills with the proceeds going to Diabetes, a foodbank and an individual that was badly injured in an accident. Our largest sponsor is allowing us to take donations for hot dogs and hamburgers at his business at the finish line while we are waiting for the riders to finish. Thanks to all of the sponsors but especially the Elkhead Brewery were the half-way point and the end point will be located at. Membership Asking someone to join our club is sometimes difficult. You are afraid to ask the person to give of their valuable time to come down to a meeting that may or may not be interesting to them. Well don t ask them to a meeting, ask them to come to a project and see us in action. Let them see some of what we can accomplish. Ask them to join on that basis not what we do at the meetings. Yes meetings are important, but it is more important that we have people willing to come out and work on our projects. If they are willing to come to a feed, cook at a breakfast, work three or four shifts at the Christmas tree sale but maybe only go to a few meeting a year then they are still a valuable member of the club. Helping our community is why we are here. Dues are Due
