1 Gladwin County February 2017 Upcoming Dates to Remember: 4-H Online is open. Please pay your membership fees. I would like to have everyone enrolled and fees paid by Mar. 15th. Feb. 7th - Leader s Council Meeting MSUE Extension Office Feb. 10th - 4-H Fish Fry at the Knights of Columbus, Gladwin 4-7, volunteers and baked goods are still needed. Call the MSUE office to volunteer. Please see page 2 for a very important opportunity that will take place at the fish fry. Feb. 17th-18th - Veterinary Science Workshop, Kettunen Center Tustin, MI Feb. 18th-19th - Beef, Sheep & Swine Workshop, Kettunen Center Tustin, MI Feb. 24th - Youth Business Guide to Success 10am - 3:00pm Isabella County MSU Extension Office, Mt. Pleasant, MI Feb. 24th - Registration Due for Robotics Workshop. See attached flyer. Feb. 25th - 4-H Tubing Day at Snow Snake. Make sure to stop in the MSUE office to get your Release of Liability Paper, you need it to participate. Mar. 1st. - Scholarship Packets are due. Please have them to the MSU Extension office. 2 The Gladwin County Leadership Program have asked for our 4-H clubs help.. As a part of the Gladwin County Leadership Program, we have become aware of a need in our community. In an effort to restock the non-food supplies of Sacred Heart's Mission, Helping Hands Mission and New Dawn Shelter, we are asking your organization to host a personal hygiene drive as a part of one of your annual events or activities. Some of the items needed are: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, denture cleaner, floss Soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion Disposable razors, shave cream/gel Deodorant Women's hygiene needs Toilet paper, paper towel, house cleaning supplies, laundry & dish soap The benefiting organizations are: Sacred Heart Mission - info from ,980 meals served 903 families helped 606 assisted with food & personal items Helping Hands Mission assisted about 22,000 families in 2016 provides about 4 personal product bags/day New Dawn Shelter 176 people have been served during their 2 years Men, women and children stay. If you ever have any questions, please call the office. The rule is...if there is no school, there will be no meeting. I will send s to all members and post on facebook if we do cancel. At this event, participants will: Spend two action-packed days in sessions they choose, led by experts learning the secrets of healthy living and food science. The hands-on sessions from which to choose will include: What to eat and when to increase energy Becoming a junior chef Relaxation tips and tricks Indoor and outdoor cooking Healthy money habits Food preservation Dancing and more. 11 Through such 4-H projects, young people both enjoy hands-on activities and develop life skills ( For example, by allowing 4-H ers to choose the sessions in which they want to participate, they learn decision-making skills and independence. At the 2017 Challenge U 4-H FunFest, youth will also learn communication, cooperation and teamwork. All in all, participants learn to make the best (themselves) better.
