1 The Current Catch the wave What s happening with Japanese American Citizens League - Silicon Valley Chapter Winter, 2011 SV JACL to host Annual General Meeting On December 2, 2011 will host the Annual General Meeting Potluck. We will be having a potluck starting at 6:00p.m., with the General Meeting starting around 7:00p.m. Please join us and help celebrate another year of chapter activities and accomplishments. This meeting we will vote on board members, and install the 2012 Board of Directors. 2 Member Spotlight Congratulations to SV JACL Member Cheryl Nakagawa for being named Airborne Gymnastics Employee of the Month. Cheryl was has been a loyal hard working employee and was able to park her car in the special parking spot for the month. We would like to thank the membership and basketball participants for their support in the JUMPSTART National JACL Drawing. With your support we were able to raise $2,300 to help National JACL. Congratulations to Nick Hori being named NCWNP Youth Representative. 2nd Basketball Tournament On August 27 28, 2011, and Labor Day weekend September 3 4, 2011, SV JACL hosted another successful basketball tournament. 21 adult teams and 97 youth teams came to Silicon Valley and enjoyed a great tournament. formed a Women s Lower Team and ended up winning the tournament and getting a black shirt. Thank you to our team, Katy Drennan, Amanda Dung, Nicole Harada, Leigh Hiura, Elle Koshiyama, Sandy Mar, Erin Mukai, & Edna Sison.

3 Upcoming Events Monday, October 31, 2011, 5:00pm, Halloween in Japantown. The chapter will again be passing out goodies at Roy s Coffee & Teas. Please come by and walk around Japantown and get your Trick and Treat. Saturday, November 13, 2011, 6:00pm, SV JACL Board Meeting. The monthly meeting will be held at the Kobayashi House. If directions are needed contact Jeff Yoshioka at Friday, December 2, :00pm 9:00pm, SV JACL Annual General Meeting. Please come to the chapterʹs annual general meeting on Friday, December 2rd. We will be having a potluck at 6:00, with the meeting starting around 7:00. Please come and see and hear everything the chapter has done the past year. Silicon Valley JACL has been asked to help at this Yu Ai Kai Mochitsuki Fundraiser. This event will be at San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin Annex. 4 Fundraising Drive Update for the Relief Effort in Japan Thank you to everyone for your generosity. We collected donations of $2,500 from the Silicon Valley JACL Board of Directors, and $500 from the chapter. The chapter membership matched the chapter board s efforts of $2,550. We received a $5,000 donation from a friend of the chapter to make a grand total of $10,550 that went to the Direct Relief Fund. Attached is a thank you letter from National JACL.
