3 The Fort Wayne Bowl-A-Thon was held on Saturday, March 23rd. The annual fun-filled event raised over $15,000! Over the years the Fort Wayne Strike Out Crohn s and Colitis has raised more than $90,000! A big thank you to Kevin Feldman and his family (pictured) for many years of dedication!! Presented by: Strike Out for Crohn s & Colitis, Bowl-A-Thon Casino Night & Silent Auction Presented by: Our premiere winter fundraiser, the 7th Annual Casino Night & Silent Auction, was held on February 9th, 2013 in downtown Indianapolis! Attendees enjoyed a cocktail party and short program, followed by an evening of Vegas style house gaming, cash poker games, and opportunities to bid on a variety of exclusive auction items. The annual Casino Night brought together over 120 local business, community, and medical leaders and raised more than $42,000! Mr. Mark Maddox made a pledge to match donations, up to $5,000, made to PRO-KIIDS, the fund that supports all pediatric research and programs. At the event more than $2,000 in pledges were made. 4 Awareness Week & Indy Undie Run Awareness week for Crohn s & ulcerative colitis took place December 1-7, 2012! To celebrate and kickoff our 2013 year, we hosted our first Indy Undie Run on Dec 9th, which proved to be tons of fun for everyone! We even got lucky with some decently warm weather! Nearly 40 runners came out to run or walk the 5k, dressed in their favorite undies and pajamas. Not to mention they received some cool CCFA boxer shorts for participating! We hope to see you next year! Team Challenge - Hoosiers took on Vegas! Four Hoosiers, including our very own Indiana state chapter director, made the commitment and completed Team Challenge in Las Vegas last December. Together they raised almost $20,000! Team Challenge is CCFA s half marathon (running or walking) training program in which participants commit to raising a certain amount for CCFA and in return receive run/walk coaching, race entry and accommodations and so much more! Campus Connection for college students We re excited to share that CCFA s first interactive, college student focused website is now live! Students can log on, plot themselves on a map, post events on campus, find events on campus and more! There are great resources for students to use and share with others. Share this site with all college students with IBD so they can connect with others around the country. CCFA Community Online Support Group Check out the newly launched Online Support Group program! With over 8,700 visitors per month, the Online Community continues to be a valuable resource for patients and families. If you are unable to attend in-person support groups, this may be a great resource for you! The Online Support Group will provide patients with a platform to connect with their peers and support one another over four weekly support group sessions covering key topics in IBD. Prior to each live session, participants will review educational material related to that week s topic, including disease education, medical management, diet and nutrition, and everyday living. The participants will then meet via a live moderated online chat session to share their experiences and support one another. Power of Two Program - New! Power of Two is a one-on-one CCFA support program that connects people facing challenges brought on by living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Individuals seeking help are matched with a peer mentor who has experienced similar medical and personal concerns. Power of Two peer mentors are trained to support participants through phone, , or video chat exchanges. The program is open to people with Crohn s or colitis and those with children, family members, or other loved ones with these diseases. Anyone over the age of 10 can apply to be a mentor to provide insights into living with Crohn s and colitis. (Individuals under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian consent.) Whether you are seeking support or are willing to help others as a peer mentor, please contact the Indiana Chapter at or Indiana@ccfa.org to learn more.
