1 CENTRAL COAST WOODTURNERS A CHAPTER OF AAW President - George Paes Vice President - Gordon Rowland Treasurer - Terry Cohen Librarian - Don Barr Bulletin Editor - Bill Peterson Meeting - Odd Fellows Hall 520 Dana Street San Luis Obispo, CA 2nd Saturday 9:00 AM Next Meeting February 11, 2012 January 12, 2012 Meeting Highlights Guests included Tye Putnam from Sequoia Woodturners and Harvey Cohon a friend of Terry Cohen. Announcements Northwoods in Forrest Grove Oregon offers 15% off at checkout. Jim Hellemand from Canada is wintering in Atascadero and has Big Leaf Maple slabs for sale. Call at (520) Dan Ross in Creston has lots of wood for sale. George has details. Dean Atkins from BAWTA seeks members attending the San Jose AAW Symposium who have video expertise to volunteer to work. He offers a free
2 Symposium ticket in return for working. The Symposium also needs (non paid) volunteers to help with the Instant Gallery. We will ask Dale Nish from Crafts Supply for prizes for our Frisbee Toss at our 2012 Picnic in the park. We are covered by AAW insurance for liability at public demos. Tom Bullock and Bud Brown offered their shops for Sawdust Sessions. Little interest shown so will hold off for a while. Mid South Woodturners had a woman member killed in her shop. They are offering protective shields and advice to clubs for public demos safety. Gerry Davis made an elbow tool and didn t know two tool rests are needed to make it work. Thrust bearings for elbow tools are sold at Kaman Bearings in Santa Maria. Also Central Coast Bearings. Stock number TC Rick Haseman was dumpster diving in Santa Maria and found some thin sheet Teflon in rolls. He shared free pieces with all who stepped up. Nothing sticks.
3 Bus Maley visited Hawaii and said Koa and other Hawaiian woods are becoming very scarce and pricey. Cheap Ass Bowls offered a box of bowl blanks for our raffle and asked for a plug in return. Nice stuff Check them out on line: Possible Future Demos Jimmy Clewes for March 10 th. Kandler hosts and houses and George will arrange. Gramme Priddle will be at BAWTA in May and might come our way. George will discuss with Dean Adkins. Future Symposiums AAW Annual Symposium - San Jose, California San Jose Convention and Cultural Center June 8 to June 10, Lodging at Marriott, Hilton, Crowne Plaza from $125 to $129 for early registrations. Early Symposium registration price is the cheapest. See the AAW site:
