3 News from the Charity Committee s Chairman Planning is underway for our 2015 fundraisers. 1) Currently planned is the Wounded Warrior dinner, which is scheduled For May in conjunction with the SSF Elks Lodge to be held at the Elks Lodge 2)The CORA dinner in October 3)The Thanksgiving Food drive in November for the Samaritan House If any members have a special charity that they would like to sponsor, Contact Armand Dadoun as soon as possible. MORE EVENT DETAILS TO FOLLOW Open Meetings for 2015, are, as follows: Tuesday, February 17 th Tuesday, May 5 th Tuesday, August 18 th Tuesday, November 17 th In an open meeting, the potential member(s) can discover the history of the Odd Fellows, learn how our lodge functions, what charities that we support, and our social events.

4 The 2014 Holiday party was attended by 140 members, family, and friends. We gathered at the San Mateo Elks Club to mingle with old friends and make new friends. There were arts & crafts for the children, and a special visit from Santa. A big thank to our Santa Dennis Carrey, and to Armand and Jenny Dadoun for the wonderful photo memories. A big thank you to the members who participated in the gifts for the South San Francisco Boys & Girls Club. You made a child s Christmas Merry! There was an Ugly Christmas sweater contest, and the winners were: Adults 3 rd place: Michele Huerta 2 nd place: Rosann Fraher 1 st place: Dave De Marco Children All were winners Brendan Collondrez, Daniel Henry and Myah Rodriguez Old Tyme Movies in Niles On a beautiful Sunday, November 9 th, 40 members of CA #1 gathered in the East Bay district of Niles to enjoy a unique day of touring the area where Charlie Chaplin filmed some of his most famous movies, along with Bronco Billie. Along the way we stopped for ice cream, and then gathered back at the Rssanay Film Studios to watch some hilarious black and white talkies featuring Laurel and Hardy. Many folks had never been to Niles, and were wonderfully surprised by this little gem hidden in the East Bay located near Niles Canyon. On Saturday, January 10 th, seven members of California Lodge No. 1 met at the CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse) facility for a tour given by Marisa Binder, Development Office. CORA provides; a crisis hotline, emergency shelter, supportive housing, counseling, and legal service. This is the only help of its kind in all of San Mateo County, though they work with other agencies in other counties. Our Lodge has been providing help, via fundraisers, for seven years. Our fundraiser Is usually held in October. If anyone would like further information regarding CORA they can go to

5 TREATS RESPONSIBILITY Each meeting we bring wonderful treats to our lodge. Anyone doing this realizes it is a LOT of work! Most of us just do it once a year, so it may be hard to remember what is required. Following is a checklist to help when you are bringing treats: NOTE: Treats budget has been increased to $200 1) Sign up with George Guerra at (415) (or at a lodge meeting to arrange to bring treats) 2) The treats limit is $200, excluding drinks and paper products. They are already at the Lodge. 3) Arrive at the hall by 7:00pm, and arrange access by getting the lodge key from any of our five elected officers (see list at top of newsletter) 4) Make sure you know the combinations to the locks upstairs. Elected officers have combinations. 5) You will probably miss the meeting the night you have treats. If you need to report on something, get a helper. 6) When the treats are complete, you must clean up the hall. Along with help from the other members, make sure that the tables and chairs are put back. 7) You must lock all the cabinets upstairs as well as the hall when you are exiting the building. ATTENDANCE AND RAFFLE WINNERS: As an incentive to those who attend meetings, there is a name drawn at each meeting, and the winner receives a $$ prize. This consists of forums for open discussion on general topics and also gives members the ability to create blogs, add calendar events, etc. It is hoped that this will be a good platform to carry Odd Fellowship further to the world. Registration process is simple.
