The holiday is from 8-12 May 2017 and includes: 4 nights dinner bed and breakfast Evening entertainment Day in Carlisle with entry to Carlisle Castle Floors Castle and gardens and Kelso Pooley Bridge and Ullswater Full details of the holiday will be available upon request from Wednesday 4 January 2017 DAY TRIPS 2017 The first 3 day trips of the New Year may be booked on Thursday 1 December from 9.30am onwards, they are as follows: January 23: Batley Mill for some New Year retail therapy. February 21: A winter warmer at Millstones for a meal, dancing and entertainment. March 29: A day in the historic (and flat!) town of Beverley, in the Yorkshire Wolds. 2 MHA Live at Home Newsl et t er AGM - Tuesday 7 March 2017 The AGM will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 7 March All members and volunteers are invited to attend to hear about the work of the scheme and our future plans. This is YOUR opportunity to have a say in YOUR scheme. Officer posts and committee members for the following year will be elected at the AGM. If you wish to nominate yourself or somebody else (with their permission) for any post please contact the office for a nomination form. We are also in need of an independent financial examiner for the year end December If you, or anyone you know, are interested in this role then please contact the office. The financial examiner does NOT sit on the committee, the commitment is purely to review the accounts. Page 2

3 Regular Activities After the Christmas holidays why not try out some of our activities which are there to help you feel better and meet other members too. All are based at Central Methodist Church. Wednesday January 4 Attention all shoppers!!! The minibus shopping t rips will restart to enable you to restock all those New Year essentials, (I'm talking food here folks!!!) Thursday January 5 Indoor bowls, coffee m orning and lunch club restart. Friday January 6 Mobile Phones /ipad training. Come along and learn how to use all those Christmas presents (booking required). The courses last for 6 weeks and support a maximum of 6 people. Monday January 9 Our exercise classes begin again. Classes are held for 1 hour and start at 9.30am and 10.30am. Chair based exercise starts at 12.00noon. The Scheme is also open for tea and coffee from so feel free to call in for a cuppa and a nat t er. Craft Group also starts today and runs every alternate Monday from 1.30pm pm Dan will be out and about leading his walks and shopping t rips and Debbie will be on the first of her weekly pub lunches of 2017 Tuesday January 10 Our doors will be open from 10.00am for t able t ennis. and board gam es Bacon But t ie club and dancing start up again too. 6 Carol Service At 12.30pm on Thursday 15 Decem ber we will be having a Christmas Carol Concert here at Central. The service will be led by Alistair Jones and our very own Mavis Jeffries will be playing the organ. This is our last day of activities in the scheme before we break up for the Christmas holidays, we hope you will join us from 9.30 onwards for fest ive t reat s, quizzes, carols and fun, and of course the usual Lunch Club. Ladies Fellowship Central Methodist Church Ladies Fellowship will be holding their annual Christmas Celebration on Wednesday 7 December at 1.30pm. The fellowship will be visited by children from St Margaret's School who will give a short concert of Christmas carols and songs. Live at Home members are cordially invited to come along and join in. All Welcome Hampers This year we will not be handing out a hamper to each of our members as we have done on previous occasions. We will make up hampers to deliver for those who would benefit. If you fall into this category or you know someone who does then please let a member of staff know....in plenty of time please!!!!! 7 Walk and Talk The Friday morning nature walks led by Judith and Nicki continue to go from strength to strength. Because of this we aim to keep the project running over the winter months. This project is for people living with memory loss and their carers We will make the most of bright, dry Friday mornings and go out for a walk as usual. However for those cold miserable winter Fridays we are going to bring the outdoors indoors, here at Central Methodist. On November 18th, Paul Shagouri from Friends of Hunger Hills Woods will be coming into the scheme to give a power-point presentation and a talk about the woods For more information speak to Judith or Nicki or call the office. 8 Pop up Live at Home Live at Home will soon be coming closer to you. Look out for our Pop Up Live at Home occasions which will feature afternoon tea and all the usual Live at Home Fun and Frivolity to brighten up the dreary winter months. Central Christmas Fair Date: Time: Saturday 3 December 10.00am pm Where: Central Methodist Featuring Tombola, Raffle, Cake, Cards, Crafts and refreshments Volunteers We usually give a big thank you supper to all of our invaluable volunteers in November. We are moving this date to June in order to bring our Scheme in line with National Volunteers week. So the staff look forward to having a grand evening out in June with all our lovely volunteers. Dementia Friends In October all volunteers and trusted tradespersons were invited to attend dementia friends training given by our Committee Member and local Town Councillor, Valerie Wood Robinson. Horsforth aims to become a dementia friendly community. Homeward In October Judith and 3 HomeWard volunteers attended the Leeds Vision Consortium on a day course to help people living with sight issues. The other volunteers will attend in due course. The course was invaluable in helping us to understand how to maintain independence and quality of life in difficult circumstances. Closing for Christmas Please note that activities will finish on Thursday 15 December, the scheme will reopen on Wednesday 4 January. The scheme office will run on a skeleton staff basis over the holidays. During the holiday period messages can be left on the office answering machine which will be checked regularly. Page 8
