1 Rotary Club of Morialta Inc. District 9520 P.O. Box 121 ATHELSTONE SA 5076 Secretary Tim Mee PRESIDENT S NEWS THE COG RCM Meeting 1736 Bulletin 23 January 2019 Presidents blog for Cog 23/01/2019 People of Action were in action over the Past week. From the Back to Rotary gathering at Thorndon Park to the conclusion of the TDU at Athelstone there were Rotarians everywhere. The traditional back to Rotary BBQ was converted to BBQ chicken and salads event due to the heat with several partners preparing bowls of coleslaw, potato salad. Lettuce and tossed salad and Japanese rice salad to feed the 40 that attended. Significantly the special guests that also attended were updated on a few of our projects and there were several offers of ideas or tangible assistance that flowed from their attendance. We will follow through on these to see if we can convert the offers into tangible benefits to our projects and the club. Politian s and the Mayor offered to assist the club in any way that they could and we will look to leverage the strengthening of our relationship with these important people in our community. Tour Down Under Came to Campbelltown on Friday 18 January and the club was asked to provide a BBQ and drinks to sponsors and officials. Graeme Packer organised a team to deliver these and we all enjoyed the race finish and atmosphere that TDU brings. Workshop members were also eager volunteers Back To Rotary continues on 23 January with a meeting at the Rezz and we will welcome Rob Brennan as a club member. Rob has retired from full time work but had a career in Employment services with the CES and smaller employment service providers. The following week is the 5 th Wednesday of the Month so we do not meet. However, on 1 February we have the second moonlight market for the year and it is a good fundraiser so Park we need you on 1 February. See you on Wednesday Page 1

Please give bags to Graeme, Bob or Alan at Rotary meeting or at the Community Workshop. EXTRA INFORMATION 2019 SANTOS Tourer Down Under Report - 18 th Jan Foxfield Oval -Maryvale Rd, Athelstone - Set-up 8.30am Finish approx at the park once we had packed up. Well what a day, a little humid in the morning, more enjoyable as the day went on, but we all enjoyed the day, with a little shower of rain. Our commitment was to SANTOS and SA Tourism Commission (who with the help of Campbelltown CC) suggested we could fulfil the requirements they requested, under the Santos Marquee (6 x 3) it was great to have a marquee supplied etc. A big, big thank you should go to all the members who volunteered for the day, Tim M, Alan & Judy C, Judy B, President Paul, Brenton S, Emiko & Peter M, David & Jenny R, Vicky & myself along with Les J, and Syd from the Community Workshop. We even had His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC show us how to cook sausages or help cook, Mayor Jill Whittaker with a councillor. Volunteers from LOVE Campbelltown offered their help if needed, but our team just did a superb job serving (Vicky P, Judy B, and Emiko M), preparing bread (thanks Jenny) and all the cooks who prepared and were continually busy all the time during the event. Started cooking at 10.00am for all the workers who were on site setting up for the day. Well the best part we completely ran out of serving & cooking food at the right time of the day, so it s nice to not have to take anything home. We cooked 29kg Sausages (406), Steaks 6kg (could have done more) 3kg Italian Supremo (ask Alan C. about cooking these, he was hoping Emidio would turn up), 12.5kg of Onions, and some Veggie Burgers (these we did not sell all). Takings for the Day $ with additional $ from SANTOS/ SA Tourism Commission to come. A great day had by all with a lot of Fellowship during the day with workers (TDU, Emergency Workers, Support) & spectators, cyclists, Regards & thank you to all for your help on the day - Graeme & Vicky Packer Page 3
