Guests: Kim Harvey DG district 9520 and husband Paul, Janet Hoopman and Janelle Gaudet-Fox Apologies: Rodger Hedley, Ian Stanford, Euan Miller, Mark Nicholas, Christel Mex, Jo Manuel, Sam Hamilton-Smith BBQ - Our BBQ on 26 October 2018 was a good success raising $1,300 for the club. I must thank Jo for doing a double shift much appreciated. I am trying to get ahead with organising the next two BBQs so will distribute two sheets one for BBQ on 23 November and one for 28 December. The December one is likely to be extremely busy so will need additional volunteers for that BBQ. LIFT THE LID - At meeting 3186 on 17 th October 2018 members participated in a couple of fun games which required a gold coin to enter. We raise about $ We then went down to the Town Hall and supported the Norwood and the Kensington Residents Association Meet the Candidates by organising supper for them. They publicly thanked us for our support and prior to commencing supper they allowed us to promote the Lift the Lid Campaign. We put out a donation box and together with our money raised a total of $ We also took the opportunity to hand out brochures during supper. Thanks to Di, John and my son Aaron for assisting at that event. NORWOOD, PAYNEHAM AND ST PETERS CHRISTMAS PAGEANT Just a reminder to make sure that you have the Christmas Pageant on 24 November, in your diary. We provide assistance to the council by being Marshals at that event and we will also again this year have a float in the Pageant. Di and her committee are organising the float and Bob will again this year organise the Marshals we will also hand around a sheet for you to nominate a time you would be available to help. MEMBERSHIP - Group 7 meeting held at the end of October. Group 7 comprises clubs from Norwood, Magill, Kent Town, Burnside, Morialta, Campbelltown) with David Jones as Assistant Governor. Key focus of the meeting was on membership and we discussed ways as to how we increase our membership. Euan as our Membership Director attended with me as well. We will be having an information night for prospective members on 6 February 2019, which is a normal meeting night. So between now and then please give consideration to whom you could invite to that meeting. DG KIM HARVEY (Guest Speaker) - Prior to the meeting DG Kim Harvey met with the Board. This was a way that we could demonstrate the broad range of activities that we as a club are community focus. DG Kim was also able to provide us with further strategies around membership and public image. Our Club received a Club Citation for our efforts in the 2017/18 year. DG Kim presented this to Past Present Di Clements. DG Kim conveyed a number of messages. The main one being Take the LEAP of leadership. 2 We need to identify President of Rotary International, Barry Rassin s priorities. His Priorities included: Maintain focus on the eradication of Polio and increase awareness of Rotary s role in this campaign Care for the environment Rotary s responsibility Focus on a positive experience for all Rotarians The District Focus for Supporting and Strengthening Clubs includes: Promote inclusion and diversity People first approach Next Generation Advisory Group Establish one new Satellite Club The District Focus for Focus and Increase Humanitarian Service includes: Utilise Global and District Grants to create partnerships and opportunities for greater impact Contribute to the annual fund Increase opportunities for service Utilise public events to promote Rotary s work in polio eradication Establish at least one new Rotary Community Corps ROTARY NORWOOD IMPORTANT DATES Establish at least one new Interact Club Environment Rotary s Impact DG Kim Harvey advised of a great article for information on Polio Eradication and all members are encouraged to read this: Kim suggested that all clubs should operate by having a Rotary Day, where clubs celebrate and showcase achievements from Rotary. Ensuring banners and promotional items are used to better reflect Rotary in a Public forum. District Leaders and the End Polio car are available to assist in these events. A reminder to all members that the District Conference in Broken Hill is coming up on the 5-7 th April Kim advised of the exciting speakers and activities she has planned for the weekend. If you need more information you can go to conference-2019 Kim finished her speech with saying: We are all volunteers, we all give up our time freely, so encourage all Rotarians to find balance in life and celebrate achievements. We must be good to each other. AGM We are having an AGM on 5 December where we will advise the makeup of the Board. As per the constitution, I am therefore formally asking for volunteers for the Board for the 2018/19 year. Positions are President Elect, Community, Treasurer, International, Vocational, Media, Membership, Youth and Fundraising. Please consider nominating for one of these positions and let me know if you would like to nominate and which position. If we have more than one nomination then we will have a ballot on the night. There are 3 shifts we need 4 5 per shift. Everything supplied. GSE We have nominated to be a host for a Group Study Exchange (GSE) team from D6040 Missouri USA. At the meeting 4 members agreed to host a team member. Our Club s allocated days are March 2019 inclusive. We are still seeking a 5 th person to host if possible. If interested please let President Gail know. SHARE THE DIGNITY PROJECT Thanks to the Community Committee for organising this hands on project. The Club had a good production line going in filling the bags at the meeting. I understand that behind the scenes there was significant effort put in both in collecting and organising the donated products into their respective classifications. This made the filling of the bags run smoothly as an event. Next meeting: 21 November 2018 NORWOOD PAGAENT COSTUMES!! Just a reminder to all members to let Jo know before THIS Saturday if you would like to borrow a costume for this year s Christmas float. She will be getting around the world themed costumes for any children partaking from the council s costume collection Saturday morning. Please indicate how many and rough sizes either via joanne.manuel@hotmail.com or phone/ text SCOUT JAMBOREE - PLEASE CONSIDER PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THIS EVENT We put our hand up to be considered for doing BBQ at Scout Jamboree at Murray Bridge in Jan. We have been allocated Friday 11 Jan Based on advice provided so far, this is likely to be a significant fundraiser.
