Hello neighbors, If you are reading this you probably live in or own a house in Edgehill. Chances are you have not been involved with the homeowner s association or given it much thought. Maybe you are not interested in the pool or any of the activities we offer. However, have you considered what will happen if the association ceased to exist? If the bank takes over the property it will likely sit vacant for months before being sold to the highest bidder. How would the neighborhood be affected if the clubhouse and pool were shuttered and abandoned? Would the empty property attract unwanted visitors? It certainly would not appeal to any prospective homebuyers. Eventually the property would be sold. What would be built there: Single family homes? Apartments or townhouses? How would that affect our neighborhood? How would that affect you? Who would maintain the common areas? The association pays to maintain the front entrance and medians and cuts the ballfield. Actually, without the association there won t be a ballfield, clubhouse, pool, or the wooded areas surrounding it new houses or apartments would eventually be built there. Without the association and clubhouse, the local scouts would have to find another place to meet. They would also need to find a new sponsor. Cub Scout pack 104 has been sponsored by Edgehill for over 40 years. We would lose the opportunity to rent a reasonably priced facility right in the neighborhood for family birthday parties, baby showers, and weddings. We would lose our convenient, low cost exercise options: yoga, exercise class, and water aerobics. Neighborhood kids would lose their swim team and pool. Many Edgehill kids got their first job as lifeguards before they were old enough to drive. Younger kids learned responsibility earning volunteer hours at the snack shack. Who would organize and promote neighborhood yard sales? They attract much more traffic than individual yard sales. Would you miss this community newsletter that delivers relevant Website: local information as well as a listing of neighborhood businesses? Who would communicate with York County staff and the Board of Supervisors on our behalf? Would our voice be heard as clearly without an organized effort? Our property values would certainly decrease. It is a fact that communities with the benefits of voluntary associations are more attractive to prospective home buyers than those without. Mostimportantly,wewouldloseabigpartofwhatmakesEdgehill a great place to live. Involvement in the association gives you a chance to make friends with neighbors you would not normally cross paths with. It gives us a sense of ownership and belonging, a chance to get to know each other in support of a common goal. Less than 30% of the houses in Edgehill are currently association members. Only a small handful are actively involved in keeping the association alive. We need your help! In the hope of attracting more members, we have reduced the price of Active membership by half. For $100, an Active membership supports the association, allows you to vote on association issues (like the budget) and serve on the board of directors, gives you a significant discount on clubhouse rentals, and allows you to attend all the association activities for the year. Please consider joining this year and maybe even getting involved. Edgehill Pack 104 Pack 104 in the 2017 Williamsburg Christmas ATTENTION: Pack 104 is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary and is looking for items, photos, old books, projects, any information, etc., relating to the Pack from its beginning to the present. We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives...not looking for flaws, but for potential. 3 EDGEHILL: A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE! Keep the Edgehill Eels swim team in mind for next year. It's a great experience for young people and excellent exercise! *** CHAIR YOGA COMING TO EDGEHILL *** The Edgehill Yoga program will be expanded in January. In addition to the ongoing classes on Mondays at 6 pm, which are Vinyasa Flow and Yin yoga type classes (more traditional yoga), we will be adding a Chair Yoga class on Thursdays at 4:30 pm. Chair Yoga is a great complement to traditional yoga for all levels using the chair for leverage deepens stretches and provides stability for many poses. It is also ideal for individuals who have a "desk job" to learn how to incorporate movement throughout the day to increase mobility and reduce the negative effects of prolonged sitting. Finally, chair yoga is also helpful for individuals with limited mobility that find a traditional yoga class difficult to participate in for various reasons. The Edgehill Yoga instructor team looks forward to seeing Edgehill Community members in both classes! Cost for EHA members: $6/class. Cost for EHA non-members: $9/class. 4 ***COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROJECTS/OPPORTUNITIES*** FIRST: A BIG THANK YOU! A big thank-you to Richard Peters for his hard work in removing the shelving inside the storage closets at the clubhouse. We needed the space for storing chairs and tables. Thanks so much! Do you have a teen who's looking for a community service project? Earn Extra Money/Membership Anyone interested in earning a little extra money and an Association membership? We're looking for a person to clean the clubhouse on a semi-regular basis and after events, if the renters choose not to do the cleaning themselves; but, also the check to make sure lights have been turned off and no water is left running. ContactRoxanne Lord: or Theresa Walker: SEEKING DONATIONS TO DEFRAY POOL REPAIR Possibly because of age, as well as wear and tear, the Edgehill pool has recently sprung a leak and is slowly but surely draining water into the ground. At this point in time, we still have not been able to locate the source of the leak, although we hope to over the next few weeks. Once we find the leak, we will have to repair it, which will cost us money we don't really have. In the past, when things needed to be done, people have been generous in donating the funds necessary to make it happen. We are once again in a position where we need people to step up and help. If you can see your way clear to give some small donation to help drfray the cost of pool repair, we would be grateful. Please contact Theresa Walker: if you can help. ALSO: If you have an intimate knowledge of plumbing in, around, or beneath a pool, please contact Roxanne Lord: or Theresa Walker: SEEKING PERSON/PERSONS TO HEAD UP THE SPRING YARD SALE We need someone who will be the "go-to" person for the annual Edgehill yard sale, which usually takes place in April or May. Responsibilities will include: taking the names and money for people who want to rent tables and be included in the map, put the ad in the newspaper, be at the clubhouse when people come to pick up the tables and return the tables, hand out the maps and balloons to the people when they come to get tables, post info on social media, and send names to Margaret Morris to be included on the map. This is often a good fund-raiser for the Association and we'd hate to lose it.
