1 The Official Newsletter of the Kiwanis Club of Roseville January 30, No. 040 O ver 80 Key Club members from Division 44 North and South descended on Granite Bay High School on January 14 for their annual Conclave. The Key Club Conclave is an annual event where the Key Club member s delegates vote for their new Lt. Governor Elect. The current Key Club Lt. Governor is Marisa Wong of the Granite Bay HS Key Club which hosted the event. The day began with candidates giving speeches, then the delegates cast ballots to vote for their new Lt. Governor Elect. The new Lt. Governor s term will begin at the conclusion of DCON which is April 7-9 in Anaheim. After all the delegates voted, Woodcreek Key Club s Ryan Hardmeyer was voted as Division 44 North s Lt. Governor Elect. An excellent lunch was provided by the Granite Bay Kiwanis club, they BBQ d the largest hot dogs we ve ever seen! Lt. Governor Marisa Wong with new Lt. What a great time we had at Woodbridge Elementary School presenting books our Club purchased for the students.

2 Presidents Message Hey Club Members...Where you been? I have noticed club attendance has been a bit low lately and you are so missed! Our speaker chairperson has been working diligently to schedule interesting speakers. What will it take to make the meetings more part of your weekly routine? What a great time we had at Woodbridge Elementary School presenting books our Club purchased for the students. This was a wonderful reminder of how even the little things we do impact the children of our community in a positive way. Our See s Candy Sales hit an all time high this year, a round of applause for everyone for helping out. The added funds will significantly help our budget this year! Just a reminder that we have our Crab feed on March 4 at the Roseville Sports Center. I am looking forward to congratulating the club on how well we did so please sell tickets! Your president, Ted

3 Builders Clubs Advisor: Frank Chapman Buljan - Buljan just completed a drive for the Placer Food Bank, and they donated 210 pounds of food. They are currently working on a project with the Placer SPCA to collect and donate used blankets, towels, animal toys to the SPCA in Roseville. Their next project will be to make Project Linus blankets. Creekview Ranch - In December they sold hot chocolate at school to raise funds to buy Christmas presents for a needy family. Our local Walmart also gave them a $50 gift card for this project. They just finished making blankets for Project Linus. They are currently working on posters for an upcoming family dance at their school. They are also making decorations for our crab feed. Silverado - The club is also finishing making blankets for Project Linus as well as creating Valentines greeting cards for the troops. Their next project will also be a fund raiser for the Placer SPCA. Key Clubs Antelope Advisor: Linda Frodahl We are attempting to rev up club members to get better attendance at the meetings. In early part of school year meetings had to be changed to after school due to lunch hour schedule. We will now move meetings back to lunch and have an early lunch and late lunch meeting. Induction ceremony on February 10th to give special recognition to all members. Signing up for Bug Bonanza sponsored by the city of Roseville which will be held the first part of February. Election of officers next month DCON...who will go Oakmont Advisor: Kathy Garrison Exciting News! Oakmont is finally fully sanctioned by our club. The bell, gavel and banner were presented to them. Their main project now iscollecting items for the KFH. Elections for officers are coming up this week. They will be hosting the February Key Club DCM. For a fundraiser they are scheduled to serve at a Crab Feed in February. Roseville Advisor: John Delury The RHS Key Club is working at the old Roseville library this Saturday. We have elections scheduled for Jan 30. We will start making graduation leis soon for a graduation themed fundraiser. We will be sending 5 or 6 members to DCON. We will be working the Kiwanis Crab Feed. We are working to organize and create buzz around Relay for Life which takes place on May 6. And we are scheduled for a Kiwanis Club takeover for April 13, right after DCON Woodcreek Advisor: Ted Smith / Joe Blair Woodcreek Key Club is very busy. Club elections for new officers is going to be within the next few weeks. After elections, preparation and fundraising events for DCON. Ongoing projects are assisting at RECREATE, and helping the Friends of Roseville Library with the setup of their book sale. On February 11th, they are also going to go to the Kiwanis Family House for a work day, a tour and to deliver towels and washcloths that they collected for the KFH. They are also starting new project which is gathering toys for children UCD med center. Aktion Club next page

We started 2017 with a project called the TO BOOK. Each member has designed a notepad to help them get more acquainted with the Aktion Club Pledge by using to words like to help, to demonstrate, to encourage, to better, etc. We write down examples of action we take with each one of those words monthly. We also work on craft and paper projects and periodically send cards to the Kiwanis Family House. Here are our two big events coming up: Spaghetti Feed, Friday, April 21 st from 4:30 PM to 7 PM or so. For the mere sum of $10, you receive salad, spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, and a dessert treat. (Meatless sauce will be available on request.) This is the Aktion Club s biggest fund raiser and helps pay for shirts and caps as well as the annual picnic. Annual Picnic: Wednesday, June 7 th, 10 AM-2 PM. We invite the other Aktion Clubs from Citrus Heights and Placerville to join us for a day of fun, food and fellowship. Our members look forward to this event and get great joy from other clubs attending. Set up for this event starts at 9 AM so put down the date and watch for sign-ups on the website.
