1 Enid Moose News Enid, Oklahoma, Loyal Order of the Moose #1740 September 2018 FROM THE GOVERNOR I want to thank each and everyone of you for the support you give to the Board of Officers and to the Lodge. This support was proven this past weekend at the Oklahoma/Southern Kansas Moose Association Annual Conference. At the Awards Banquet held on Saturday evening, the Enid Lodge brought home 13 Awards!!! One of the Awards was the Premier Lodge Award. There is a whole list of things that the Lodge must accomplish during the Moose Year to earn this award. It takes the support of the whole Lodge to make this happen. Another award that we are especially proud of is The Friendliest Place in Town award. I see each of you living up to this challenge every time I m in the Lodge. All of you should be very proud of these awards that you, the members, are responsible for. We have a whole month of activities planned for September. There are two opportunities to have breakfast at the Lodge, September 8th from 8:00-10:00 and September 22 from 7:00-10:00. There will also be a Fish Fry on September 22nd beginning at 6:00. This will be held on the Patio and in the Social Quarters. We re having Game Night on Friday, September 7th at 7:00. We ll be playing LCR or other games if you prefer. On September 8th, we ll be dancing to the sounds of Bobby Bennett and the Borrowed Bandits in the Ballroom. The dance will be from 7:00-11:00 and food will be served from 6:00-8:30. I hope you will come out and participate in the all the fun. Phil Pig Gammon Governor There s no better feeling than making a difference in the lives of children, seniors, and our communities Moose Legion We would like to thank everyone that came to the Sooner Moose Legion Celebration in Stillwater as well as OSKMA Annual Convention. At our last meeting we had two new Moose Legionnaires join us, Jim Clark and David Blundell. Congratulations guys! We need to push for more membership in our Moose Legion. I would like to challenge every Moose Legionnaire to sponsor at least two new Moose Legionnaires this year to not only help out our Lodge but the Association as a whole. We should be the ones stepping up and filling our lodge with not only new Members but Moose Legionnaires. That s why we join the Moose Legion. We are here to help out and make our lodge prosper for years to come. Our next Moose Legion Celebration will be in Duncan in October and we would like to see all of you in Duncan. I would love to see the Participation Banner back hanging in our lodge, and it has been a long while since we have brought home the Banner. Our Moose of the Month are The Steak Night Crew that did a heck of a job and we sure appreciate them! We need to keep buying raffle tickets for the Arctic cooler. The bucket is still nowhere full enough to draw a winner. I am the Blood Drive Chairman and our lodge will be hosting it September 22nd and I would love to see all Moose Legionnaires and Lodge Members come out and support it whether helping with the lunch or donating blood as well. 2 IS THIS A GREAT LODGE OR WHAT??? On their news broadcast, one of the television stations in Oklahoma City does a piece they have titled Is this a Great State or What. Well after having attended the Oklahoma / Southern Kansas Moose Association Annual Convention, I have to ask IS THIS A GREAT LODGE OR WHAT? Saturday night at the Convention was the Awards Banquet. Your Lodge was quite well represented. There were several awards given by Moose International, Premiere Lodge Award (Enid Lodge 1740), Leadership Award of Excellence, Administrator (Ben Franklin), and Leadership Award of Excellence, Governor (Mark Hickman). We also received 2018 Heart of the Community Honorable Mention, Moose Charities Protector Award. The OSKMA awards were given out also. OSKMA Top Sponsor Award: Dick Craig, OSKMA Top Lodge: Enid Lodge 1740, OSKMA Friendliest Place in Town: Enid Moose Lodge 1740, OSKMA Top Administrator, Ben Franklin. I just want to say that each and every one of these Awards was received by and for the Enid Moose Lodge because of what each and every one of you do as active members of the Moose Fraternity. You know we have had our ups and downs this last year at our lodge, but I am honored to be a member of this Lodge and let me tell you, we must be doing something right, whether we all believe it or not. Just a few things to look forward to in the coming months. As always, watch your monthly calendars for the monthly dances, steak nights and other activities. In October, we will have Trunk or Treat; in November, (closer than you think) our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner; in December, the WOTM Annual Christmas Brunch, our Annual Christmas Dinner, District Meeting, and New Year s Eve with Elvis and the Brent Gibbons band. One BIG decision made at the Annual OSKMA Convention. It was decided that we would start holding the Annual Convention and Mid-Year Conferences at the Lodges again. It was getting too expensive to hold them in Oklahoma City, and it will give the Lodges a chance to make money by hosting the event. It was decided that Enid will host the Mid-Year Conference in March, Even though there are certain things that have to be done, we will need your input and creative ideas in planning this conference. 4 Women of the Moose Hello Dear Co-Workers: Our chapter was just honored with receiving the 1st Place Honor for for Making A Difference in the Lives of Others at the Oklahoma Southern Kansas Annual Convention. Congratulations to the lodge for the many awards that they picked up. Ben and Mark were honored with the Leadership Awards. Great job to these guys and to our lodge brothers! Ladies, please try to attend our meeting in September! We are adding in an extra meeting this month to make up for last month when we did not have enough to hold a meeting. This month, our meetings are on Sept. 4, 18, and 25th. Also, mark your calendars for Saturday, December 1st when we will be enjoying each others company at our Holiday Brunch! 8 A Little Encouragement Goes a Long Way I was recently sitting alone contemplating my journey in life and questioning my contribution to society. We all have moments when we wonder whether or not we re making a difference or whether or not anyone is paying attention. From my phone came a familiar tone, indicating a new text message on Messenger. It was a Moose brother that I had never met, encouraging me and pledging his support. He had no way of knowing that I had one of those days and just how much I appreciated the message. What does this have to do with membership, you ask? EVERYTHING! Sometimes we forget that we are a part of something bigger and we all need to work together and encourage each other. I do what I do to give back to something that has given me purpose. Sometimes, we all need a little encouragement. We re all different but we re all the same. We inherently want to do good things and we want to see the fruits of our labors. We have the same purpose but (sometimes) different ideas. We understand that we can t help everyone, but we can certainly help someone. We need to reach out to others within our lodge, chapter, Moose Legion, Moose Riders and Valued Veterans. We need to recognize the quiet member sitting in the corner or someone we haven t seen at the lodge in a while. We may be surprised to find that they are just waiting to see if someone even cares enough to send them a message or pick up the phone and call to check on them. The sign and forget process should be a thing of the past. I m going through the list of all the members that I have signed and encouraging them; will you do the same? Our membership production is great but our membership retention is horrible! Maybe it s time we personalize our efforts. I m willing, are you? Let s make it our personal mission. We are MOOSE and WE are definitely ON A MISSION! By MIKE RIOS / Director, Membership Country Dance Committee Dear Friends, The Country Dance Committee of the Enid Moose Lodge has a dual purpose. 1) To provide wholesome dance events for dancers in our area. 2) To raise funds and awareness for needy charities in our community. Our next dance will be September 8th with Bobby Bennett and the Borrowed Bandits. We will have a 50/50 drawing to benefit the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Enid...such a worthy cause. RSVP is funded only by local businesses, individuals, organizations, and foundations. They do not get any government assistance at all! Funds from this dance will go specifically to help fund the 126 Mobile Meals they serve, five days a week, to homebound and/or impoverished seniors! We hope our caring Moose brothers and sisters will help support this worthy fund-raiser, even if you are unable to attend the great dance.
