2 SOCIAL EVENING and power point presentation held at the club last month was a great success. The money raised from admission and raffle was shared 50/50 with the Flying Doctor Presidents Report AUGUST 2016 Hi The social evening hosted last month by Whilma and Sue Ericksson was a great success with standing room only for late comers. The supper was superb and Wilma gave a very informative presentation on fossicking in North Queensland. The entry and raffle proceeds were split between the club and a sizable donation has gone off to the flying doctor. If members can come forward with rock donations the annual rock auction will be held later in the year with further donations to the Flying Doctor. Our saws are now running on baby oil, less noise from the saws, it appears to be quicker and the rocks are cut with a smoother surface. Our trim saws will be moved in this week. There has been a delayed to allow for stainless steel to be fitted to the area to minimize cleaning as it has been so successful around the other saws. The old saw room will be cleaned up and repainted and the Library and computer will be moved in. This will allow better use our reference materials and displays. Sue Ericksson with the assistance of some of the other members has been re organizing the mineral display and freshening it up to show it off at its best to our international visitors. We are going to have to look at new dust proof display cupboards in the near future. I have spoken with a contact from Ipswich and he is investigating sites available for fossicking in the area around there. Some of the old sites have been purchased by foreign buyers and they will not allow fossicking and others have been purchased privately and now has housing built on it. He however thinks he may be able to still find some land and organize a field trip in the near future. His stipulation is that he will not take more than 10 people at a time. Jim SHOW REPORT The 2017 Competition Schedule has been finalized and passed by the meeting and will be available at the club from 29 th August 2016 SILVER REPORT This month we are running a trial course for members who have completed the beginners course and want to go on and advance their techniques and learn how to use other jewellery making tools. This course is 6 weeks and the participants go home with 3 completed rings The kit cost and tuition is $120. The members are all keen and after the first week have taken home one completed ring set with x2 garnets. PICKLE A motion was passed at this meeting That the use of cold pickle on the tables in the clubhouse be removed The Meeting was made aware that the use of pickle (acids)in more than one area in the club house is a safety issue. It was voted on and passed that warm pickle would be used in the silver room and cold pickle be abolished from the club. A process for the use of hot pickle, bicarb soda and water will be written and in place from the 1 st September Silver must be dried after this process before further equipment is used.
