2 Support Local Superheroes Sponsor The Run Saturday, July 8, 2017 Cook Park Tigard, OR THE EVENT: The SUPERHERO 5k run/walk is about community, fitness, and purpose. It raises awareness and funds for local families impacted by the emotional and financial hardships of a pediatric cancer diagnosis. Since it's inception in 2013, the SUPERHERO 5k has generated nearly $45,000 with superheroes aged 0-80 coming together to honor regular kids fighting extraordinary battles. The event features a timed 5k run/walk and a one mile Superhero-In-Training course. Registrants will also enjoy music, food, face painting, an obstacle course, visits from local law enforcement, therapy animals, and other noteworthy guests. THE CAUSE: Established in Oregon in 1977 as a 501(c)(3) ) non-profit organization, Candlelighters For Children With Cancer exists to offer support to families impacted by childhood cancer. Every year, more than 200 children are diagnosed with cancer in Oregon & SW Washington with over 1,000 local children in treatment at any given time. With four chapters located throughout Oregon and SW Washington, Candlelighters helps families in the area s largest cities, metropolitan suburbs, and in the region s smallest rural towns. Portland Metro/SW Washington DOUGLAS HARNEY LAKE Mid-Willamette Valley Emergency financial assistance, monthly family activities, KLAMATH Central Oregon CURRY JOSEPHINE JACKSON bereavement support, and in-hospital programs such as Southern Oregon catered meals, food pantries, and a weekly snack cart are just some of the ways Candlelighters connects with families throughout the lifelong journey of childhood cancer. THE VENUE: Cook Park in Tigard, Oregon will be race headquarters. The route winds through Cook Park into Durham City Park on mostly paved paths and shaded forest trails along the Tualatin River. THE PARTICIPANTS: Building on a great turnout in 2016, we are anticipating between participants in Runners, walkers, individuals, corporate teams, families battling childhood cancer and those who have compassion for the cause will join together on July 8th to raise funds and awareness through teamwork, exercise and fun! Won't you join them? My girls and I loved it and the activities, firefighters, llamas, police, obstacle course, photo booth area, shaved ice it was all so much fun.thank you for one of our best days since my daughter completed treatment.
