THE CAUSE: Candlelighters started as a gathering of five families in Doernbecher Children s Hospital feeling confused and overwhelmed by their own child s cancer diagnosis in Forty years later, Candlelighters has grown into a statewide organization providing programs and services to over 80,000 family members at $0 cost and distributing over $1,000,000 to families in Emergency Financial Assistance since its inception. Candlelighters is recognized in Oregon and SW Washington as the leader for supportive care programs. Our service model provides a child with cancer, their siblings and parents, the opportunity to build relationships with other families through monthly family activities, in-hospital catered family meals, and the perennial favorite, Candlelighters Family Camp. Our programming is cruical because clinical studies show that supportive care can lessen isolation and depression for the WHOLE family and is critical to improving clinical care outcomes. WHY CHOOSE CHILDHOOD CANCER AS YOUR CAUSE? Candlelighters For Children With Cancer is a 501(c)(3) organization serving families throughout Oregon and SW Washington battling pediatric cancer with chapters in Portland, Mid- Willamette Valley, Central Oregon and Southern POLK MARION HOOD RIVER Oregon. From diagnosis through treatment, into survivorship or through bereavement, Candlelighters gives over 2,000 family members financial and emotional support to encourage hope and healing annually. THE EVENT: The 15th annual Harvest of Hope will feature silent and live auction bidding, raffles, entertainment, northwest inspired food and wine, and uplifting stories of hope and resilience from families throughout the past four decades in the local pediatric cancer community. The services and support they (Candlelighters) have put into place for families dealing with this incredibly horrible situation are so valuable, appreciated, and necessary.we plan to be involved with them as volunteers, donors and wholehearted champion advocates forever. -The Beidler Family 2016 Together, we can keep families focused on what matters most remaining a family!
