Sangeet Sandhya offers a beautiful evening filled with soothing music to all our keen members! Be it from the Golden Era or the Modern Age, be it a bhajan or a ghazal, one and all are welcome to participate. Sangeet Sandhya presents an array of mesmerizing renditions; from ghazals to poems, from contemporary music to instrumental recitals, performed by ardent artists of Perth. A pleasing and relaxing ambience with soothing music presented by sincere members of the community including children, students, adults and seniors too, not to forget volunteers from our fellow community associations. It was well attended and appreciated by a crowd of almost 100 people, a lot of which were of non-indian background. 8 Tracing your Genealogy The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India, has launched a scheme called Tracing the Roots to facilitate Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in tracing their roots in India. PIOs who intend to trace their roots in India need to apply in a prescribed form through the Indian Mission/Post in the country of their residence, along with the prescribed fee. Guidelines and application form for this purpose are available on the website of the Ministry, i.e., In case the search is not successful, part of the application fee is returned to the applicant. You may like to disseminate the information about the Scheme to PIOs known to you, so that they could consider making use of the Service, if required. 11 Message from Lord Krishna Its my birthday soon. There is a big party being organised at ISKCON temple in the Perth hills. Since it will be attended by many devotees, the organisers will need some from volunteers to help them out for this 2 day festival. Various service opportunities are available such as: serving prasadam, traffic controllers, general cleaning, security, general volunteers, donations and any other way you would like to help. 12 Help in a postgraduate research My research studies child feeding practices of Indian mothers living in Australia. The mothers will be requested to fill out an online questionnaire. The questionnaire will take about 20 minutes to complete and is in English. Mother s name, personal contact details are not required in any of the responses. The mothers would need to meet the following eligibility criteria to fill the online survey: Mothers born In India Mothers living in Australia for MORE than 1 year and LESS than 8 years Mothers having child/children 1-5 years of age I would be grateful if you could assist me by forwarding my request to your friends/families/indian community members. I still need to recruit 155 Indian mothers for my research!! Please kindly assist me in improving the future health of our Indian children by completing the online questionnaire by following the steps below: STEP 1: Please click on the survey link pasted bellow: This link will ask you the above mentioned eligibility questions. STEP 2: If you are eligible you will be requested to create a user ID and password, so you can complete the questionnaire at your own time. STEP 3: Once you create you username and password you will be directed automatically to the main child feeding questionnaire. If you do not want to complete the entire survey in one sitting you can click on the below mentioned link at any time and use your ID and password to complete the remaining parts of the survey. It would be very helpful if the questionnaire can be completed within TWO WEEKS. 15 2011 Commissioner for a Day Challenge Every year, the challenge provides a great opportunity for young people to tell the Commissioner for Children and Young People their views on an important issue. This year the Commissioner will be asking 12 to 17 yearolds to have their say on alcohol and risky drinking. The winner of the Challenge will be the Commissioner for a Day on 12 August 2011 International Youth Day and will take home an ipad2! The winner will also have the opportunity to discuss their ideas with decision makers. All the views expressed by young people in the Challenge are used to inform the Commissioner s advocacy work on behalf of children and young people. Please promote this exciting Challenge to the young people with whom you work. Entries close on Friday 15 July. 15
