One of these events is our Parent Helpers Morning Tea. We will be holding this event in the staffroom on Wednesday 7th The staff are constantly amazed by the wonderful support we receive from the parents and extended family members. They would love to see all of you that have helped them with class programs or supported the school in any way. News to Share Our Grade 2 teachers Chloe Watt and Karlie Collins have successfully applied for positions closer to their homes. We wish them all the best for the coming year and I m sure they will keep in touch with us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the wonderful job they have done, this year and in previous years at Seaholme Primary. Their new schools are lucky to have them. We would also like to thank Bibo Shi and Neville Stephens for their contribution to the school this year and wish them well for the future. 3 Olympic-a-thon The Olympic-a-thon day and raffle have past and we would like to thank those who leant a helping hand on the day and also thank those who helped their children collect sponsors. The amount of tickets that went toward the raffle was overwhelming and appreciated. We are also grateful for all the work Bernadette Caruana put in during this time. The students had a fantastic day doing a range of activities and the raffle allowed a number of them to go home with something special. The following comments were taken from children about what they thought of the Olympic-a-thon. I liked the balloon volleyball activity because keeping the balloons up was fun. (Ben P/1W) It was the best day of my life! (Tyrhys P/1A) I liked the day because I had fun running, jumping and hitting the balloons! (Chloe P/1B) It was a great day because I liked learning about soccer and working with Ms Coffey. (Freddie P/1R) Kind regards, Mr Baldie, Ms Coffey and Mr Marshall What is asthma? Asthma is a long-term lung condition. People with asthma have sensitive airways in their lungs which react to triggers, causing a flare-up. In a flare-up, the muscles around the airway squeeze tight, the airways swell and become narrow and there is more mucus. These things make it harder to breathe. An asthma flare-up can come on slowly (over hours, days or even weeks) or very quickly (over minutes). A sudden or severe asthma flare-up is sometimes called an asthma attack. One in ten people in Australia has asthma. It affects people of all ages. Some people get asthma when they are young; others when they are older. Asthma cannot be cured, but for most people it can be well controlled by following a daily management plan. What are the symptoms of asthma? A person s asthma symptoms can vary over time - sometimes they will have no symptoms, especially when their asthma is well-controlled. Symptoms often vary from person to person, but they are most commonly: breathlessness wheezing tight feeling in the chest continuing cough Symptoms often occur at night, early in the morning or during/just after activity. They are caused by the narrowing of the airways. If your asthma is well controlled, you should only have occasional asthma symptoms. If you have symptoms regularly, you should see your doctor, and visit the Controlling Asthma section on the Asthma Foundation Website If your child has a Ventolin puffer at school, please ensure that it is within the use by date and is not empty!
