1 Life before ADFAS had me living in New Delhi for four years with my husband Larry who had the task of setting up a consultancy office for Hydro Tasmania. Prior to retirement, I worked in the community sector developing programs for families with young children. I have developed a keen interest in The Slow Food Movement and practice these ideas by growing vegetables and fruit and preserving for the year ahead. After a visit to Piemonte, cheese-making has been added to our home kitchen. Learnings from ADFAS has enhanced travels to local and overseas museums and galleries and I look forward to the 2019 program that I hope you all will enjoy. Lorraine Polglase, Chairman

3 October Sophie Oosterwijk The Fruits of Sin - The Life and Times of Hieronymus Bosch Richard Warner, Governor Kate Warner and lecturer Sophie Oosterwijk Sandra and Kevin Aldred with Josephine Jaworsky Rosemary and Graham Sargison During the year Lucy Murfett, member of ADFAS Hobart won the Tasmanian Art society with the painting of Patricia Giles pictured below. Lucy has written below about her inspiration for the painting. Congratulations, Lucy from ADFAS, Hobart
4 I was thrilled to win the Tasmanian Art Society 134th Annual prize 2018 for best overall work ' An Afternoon with Pat Giles' This is Pat Giles year, we celebrated her 86 birthday with an exhibition of her paintings at Jane Franklin Gallery in June this year. I was the Coordinator and I spent many afternoons at her place. I knew Pat back in 1970 when she visited her friend the author Patsy Adam Smith, I had a bedsitter there when I was a student. My husband and I left Tasmania in 1974 and we got back to Hobart in 2007 and caught up with Pat again. She is a dear friend and an inspiration, at 86 she is as dedicated and passionate to her art, she makes her way slowly up the steps to her studio almost every day to paint! When the Annual came up I decided to create a painting that can speak for itself. The judges comments: "This is a warm and tender portrait, full of character and life. It is as much a portrait of her treasured belongings as the subject herself. There is so much joy in it". When I visited Pat we just talked. Memories came flooding back, photos were on the table, Max Angus and the Sunday painters etc. Her eyes lit up and the stories just kept coming! I tried to capture all that and put it all in my painting. Lucy, with the Governor Kate Warner at the exhibition

6 Tina Terry, ADFAS, Hobart. Art Exhibition Three Weeks Painting in the Flinders Ranges. It was lovely to see so many ADFAS members at the recent opening of one of our long- time members, Tina Terry, at her home in Sandy Bay. The work is primarily of our iconic gum trees in the Flinders ranges on a very recent trip down memory lane for Tina. As well there are lovely unframed watercolours of flowers, bark and other scenes. Tina is an established Hobart watercolourist and her paintings of Tasmanian and Australian landscape are very delicate and beautifully executed.
